taffyboyo
after a recent unpleasant experience with the dealer that resulted in me paying a labour charge after the intercooler hose came off (cant see this being caused by the chip ), Am I right in thinking that the map can be swithed back to factory setting with a sps1, and also can this be an add on, on my allready fitted revo upgrade? car is 2004 a4 avant tdi 130 sport many thanks Taff. UBM
Revo should put it back to factory FOC. You could buy the SPS1 dongle which has the map on it and flash it through the serial port to have a re-map when you want and then flash back to factory settings when it goes in. Dealers can't see it if it is flashed back, but they can see how many times the ECU has been flashed!
taffyboyo
Cheers UBM, when the mechanic drove the car the other day he said that it was "very powerful" and this was put down on the invoice along with a comment that the ecu ref was not normal and that they suspect it had been chipped. would this info be stored on their system computer now, or the dealer network system, the reason I'm a little concerned is that I have a 17k car that might not have a warranty if something goes wrong with the car, not just the engine but any problems that might arise, cheers Taff

The Revo dealer has to load the code on the car, the SPS just lets you switch between stock and performance maps... I also believe Revo has got around the flashcount as well, but to be honest thats not a clue either as if the car has received a service update at the dealer the count changes with that as well. UBM
So where is the stock setting held when you have a re-map then with an SPS1 dongle? I thought the re-map was stored in the car ECU and the factory settings on the dongle and you could re-flash factory to the ECU and put the re-map on the dongle? Or have I missed the point entirely? Cupramax
Slightly, the SPS just swaps the maps on the ECU. They are stored in a spare area which isn't used.
UBM
So they could detect the map in the otherwise normally "spare" area then?
Cupramax
Yes, if they new what and where to look for bearing in mind its all hex data... There are other things as well if you know what to look for. The AVERAGE dealer techy would not know where or what though.
Chrisg
UBM, I believe Star Performance use the One Click and this does store the map in the dongle .... so I've been led to believe.......
UBM
Thanks Chris - I knew I was not far off the mark....or so I thought....
jimmyp
The SPS1 is a Serial Port Switch, both maps are stored in the ECU, once set by a Revo dealer you can then switch the ECU back to the standard map using the SPS device and the performance map is stored somewhere in the ECU. Now the dealers diagnostics kit is very "unlikely" to detect the map, they will only "know" if you have left it on the performance map and they drive it because there will be a noticeable difference. The only true way they will know if it is chipped is if they send the ECU off to Bosch and then they will have no problems finding the map... taffyboyo
thanks gents, I will contact the revo dealer to see if they can add the SPS1 to my car, and then I'll let you know how I get on, cheers Taff
jimmyp
You don't have it added mate you just buy the device and it works straight away, i think its under £100 or around that price, then you just plug in and play...

Would you recommend it?
taffyboyo
I think it about 170-180 bhp, I havent driven a standard 130, so I cant really comment too much, but when I get the sps1 I will change it back to stock, and then I will post the outcome cheers taff

Lynas
The SPS1 does switch between stock and chipped. No need to go back to Revo everytime. Now then, does the SPS store the data or simply move data around on the ECU?
