DHA
Someone has just very kindly broken the rear window of my girlfriend's car whilst it was parked on our drive.
shark_90
Oh, nice. Bit of a fecker. Anything nicked? Fully comp insurance should cover it with a £50 or £60 excess - the same as a windscreen.
DHA
No nothing nicked at all, it looks like a small impact mark in the bottom left, most of the glass is still there at the moment but has given way in the middle due to the stress on it I guess. Autoglass have been called and will call back???
skifly
get ian_C to put it through if you can get hold of him... you might get the £50 waived as think they have a thing for friends & family.
ChadW
Mate, have a look round for any small ball bearings as my passenger window got smashed today at about 1pm, turns out someone in one of the houses on the other side was firing them into our street, we got the police to take details too. One owner has had his car dented and got hit himself coming out his garage and someone else's patio windows got smashed too. B*stards!

[/ QUOTE ] Cheers for thinking of me! Just had my dinner after a steady day. Lots of doorglasses, break-ins and vandalism over the weekend. Not good. Ian PS. Chad - how have you got on, getting your glass replaced? Doubt even our biggest branches will stock a 406 coupe, sorry!
ChadW
Cheers the Glass got delivered today and guy is doing it now. Does not look like an easy job though!
Ian_C
Wow, faster than I thought! Indeed, the frameless doors that auto-drop when you open the door [and auto-raise when you close the door to seal themselves] are some of the hardest to fit. Dave - how did you get on? DHA
Ian, Someone coming tomorrow (well today now but I haven't been to bed so still tomorrow. To fit at home. Window still intact but covered in tarp in case of rain.

Ian [/ QUOTE ] Damm right and the bloke who did told me to contact them again about getting them reset so that it shuts fully when deadlocked, at the moment it won't as it assumes sommat is in the way when it hits the roofline seal and so goes back down 2 inches again. Autoglass told me they do not know how to do it and sent me to a pug stealer to get it reset, after paying them £60 to diag it they said it is out of sync and needs adjsuted, they quoted £300 to do this and an extra £200 if the windows motor itself needs to be done, basically got Direct line to speak to autoglass and Autoglass washed their hand of it leaving me with a new claim going through Direct Line to get the job finished. Not good.....
Ian_C
Autoglass willingly admit we cannot deal with bent winding mechanisms or reset these self-dropping doorglasses [or moisture packs for that matter]. A straight break-in will not have stressed the motor. However, a vandal trying to pull down a doorglass before smashing it sometimes will bend the mechanism/regulator/motor. Most mechanisms are spring loaded, hence the runner jolts upwards when the glass disintegrates. When you get back to your car and put the ingnition on, the poor car cannot understand what is going on! The memory is lost and it needs resetting. Direct Line et al know this and - unless I am very much mistaken - you won't be charged another excess when you post the Peugeot bill to them.
