CMC950
Still waiting for my Gti to arrive. (Euroimports). Built 4 weeks ago but has been stuck somewhere in Copenhagen ever since. Still waiting for dealer to PDI and ship it. (I'm on the verge of going to get it myself!) In the meantime, have been (constantly) dreaming about the imminent ownership and I have a few questions - would be delighted if anyone could advise: 1. Running in: 1000 miles seems to be the advice. Is this the official handbook information or is this just a precaution when in actual fact its ok to gun it from the off? 2. Respraying the bumper? I think the top half of the rear bumper is a must (mines a Steel Grey) – but as the standard black bumper isn’t smooth, I’m concerned this might look shyte. Any suggestions? Is it possible to get a replacement bumper that is smooth? 3. Has anyone got a pic of the GTI mats with the red embroy? - have read about them but not seen them. 4. Is there a way for VW to reprogram the power steering so that it is heavier that factory set at higher speeds? 5. As I only do low mileage, and with the car on variable service, it could be 18 months before the service light comes on. Is there a way to get VW to look at it, after say 9 months, on warranty? Bit concerned (ironically) that my car will potentially not be looked at for over 18 months. 6. Does anyone know of any recall issues on MY06 cars? Hope those questions aren't too tedious. In the absense of the beast, talking about it is the next best thing! Pics to follow on Friday hopefully. I'll try and find a racecouse to take a photo of it! (Seems to be the thing to do on here...!)

[/ QUOTE ] This is down to personal preference, some say run in, some say no need to. (I ran mine in). [ QUOTE ] 2. Respraying the bumper? stevie_d
The dealers can reprogramme the steering, but iirc the GTI is on setting 5 and it only goes from 1 to 5...

Then richard rings me up and says 'car's already built and transported to Copenhagen' 4 weeks ahead of schedule. Marvellous, I thought. Then, because of Easter and the fact that the shipping company DFDS chose the following three weeks to take one of their ships out of commission, (confirmed on website), its all gone a bit rigobert song. Worst of all, the cars been stuck in some sort of No Mans Land - in that its left Wolfsburg but hasn't been recieved by the dealer in Copenhagen. Apparently cars arrive in Copenhagen, where they are taken off the train and put in a compound until delivered to the dealer by road transporter. This bit is all the Danish importers bit. Then, finally last Friday, the car popped up on the radar as on route to dealer! I'm now hoping something has happened over the weekend and that the car will be on Tuesdays now running ferry and that it'll be available on Friday. Basically, when I had been expecting it in the first place. Wish Richard had never told me it had been built early!

Tarmac_Terrorist
CMC950 - Can relate to your situation. Mine was built before Easter and still not at the dealers . I was last told it borded the ship on Monday last week but no news since. All seems a bit odd and very frustrating!
CMC950
The DFDS freight ship only re-starts again tomorrow I believe (and runs three times a week - Tue, Thur, Sat) takes 24 hrs. So perhaps your car has been at the Docks the other side of the pond for a while?

RedRobin
Good idea to let the turbo calm down after a spirited drive before switching engine off.
