Oh bugger, missed it, i will set the hardrive for midnight tomorrow as it is repeated.... good review ???

[/ QUOTE ]Pretty cr@p in my opinion, it was more like Tiff vs Jason having a blast in some sports cars.... they didnt review it much.... was good to see the footage anyway.

So it wasn't pretty crap on the basis that, if you're anything like me, you got the shock of your life when the M3 kept up with it?

I was very surprised indeed, but they put them both through a decent amount of testing and I think an honest person would say they were rather surprised to see how the RS4 didn't pull away from the M3 on the track!!!!

Are you surprised enough to think there must be a rational explanation?

I'd be stunned if it turned out the two cars are actually so close in performance. Since the S4 in various reports beat the M3 around a track and the RS4 by ALL accounts is quite an improvement, there must be something else.

I was actually thinking that one of the drivers is a car journalist and the other is a touring car racer - I think if it had been stig at the wheel racing the RS4 around the track and the M3, then the results would have been different.

If I remember the RS4 track test on top gear brought back a time of 1:25 secs against a CSL time of 1:28secs and an M3 of 1:31secs , therefore on fifth gear last night it must have been down to the driver.

As rjgreen4 said it would've been good to see someone like 'The Stig' (for example) do the driving, or as I said in the other thread if Tiff and Plato had swapped cars and run the test again. I thought the drag race and the lap were interesting, but the whole 'drifting' thing was pretty pointless IMO (unless you're into that sort of thing).

Started the 1980 Belgium GP at Zolder (retired) and tried to qualify for the following Monaco GP (but failed) driving for Ensign. His only other F1 experience was testing the Williams FW14 as a journalist in 1991.

He did finish 3rd at Le Mans in 1990.

Tiff has raced in Touring cars and beaten Mansell. His racing career might not have been the best but his skill is up there with the best IMO. 169144-ok.gif

Dont ever recall him beating Mansell, unless you call punting him into the Starkeys Bridge parapet at Donnington, beating him. Tiff never did have much success in touring cars, but he was a very good racing driver.

Back on topic....... A couple of things to mention, i would have prefered a road test and not a track test. We all know the M3 is a good/fun track car but on the road i think the difference would be greater. I am not talking racing on the road i am saying real world driving, see a gap and accelerate into it. (or scream up to red line for maximum power)

For you guys who thought the race was close, think what would have happend in the dry! (RS4 would still whip it)

Mansell did have a little snooze after hitting a birdge support yes.

He still does do racing but just not top line stuff. Fitness will cause him problems in some racing but in a road car against another drive over a modest distance I think he might fancy his chances. 169144-ok.gif
