Hello, I've been a lurker for quite a bit and you seem a good bunch.

Now, don't flame me, I've done a search and I wanted to know how the 01-04 1.8T/130TDI wears big mileages?

I realise the cambelts need doing at 60k/80k but wondered if any starship owners out there had comments

Cheers

Welcome to TSN mate 169144-ok.gif

I've got a 130TDi and it just eats the miles very easily. Wonderful on a motorway. Stick in in 6th and it cruises very nicely, and has a fair bit of power in that gear to perform overtakes easily without having to drop to 5th.

It depends if you go for SE, Sport or Sline, but the Sport and Sline models also go round bends nicely and at speed. sekret.gif

I'm nearly at 25,000 miles and it's been faultless so far. It's consumed 2 litres of oil, (at 10k and 15k) but not needed a drop more.

Well, my engine doesn't fit into any of those really - it's the 2.0 20v that is generally regarded as being 'crap'.

I bought my car with 98K on the clock and aim to run it for another 2 years, which will put in the region of another 80K on there! So we shall have to see how well it survives.

Next week it is going in for a cambelt change at 109K (due at 115K) and it is due for its next AVS service in about 12500 miles.

I had a 130TDi with 153,500 miles on it when I sold it. I had to have the air con fixed once, other than that no engine faults at all. It was remapped too wink.gif

Bulletproof if they're looked after properly. I recommend it's serviced every 10k. It'll never let you down 169144-ok.gif

My '02 TDI 130 is now reading 112k miles and she runs like a dream. I've been advised by quite a few people that I should not follow the variable servicing schedule for oil changes as they're too long apart so i'm going to start doing interim oil changes on mine at 6k or thereabouts. Cambelts are every 60k miles and is an expensive job as they need to remove most of the front end of the car. Audi quoted me £560 - that said, a specialist will do it for £350 so you can keep costs down by going the 'specialists' route 169144-ok.gif

The interior (i'm speaking for leather here - not sure about cloth) holds up VERY well. Mine looks like it's done no more than 30k miles. No sags on the leather and all the plastics clean up well and take a lot of abuse. No squeaks or rattles either - which is more than can be said of my S3 with only 30k miles on the clock!

I'd recommend one to anyone - they're really well built and can take a lot of abuse. Look for Bose if you can - it's a really good setup in the A4.

Yes, I agree on the interior too. Mine looked line new (cloth).

[/ QUOTE ]

Yup. My cloth interior looks brand new at 56k.

Just had my timing belt done at Audi, £350, 3rd AVS was £223. Total bill, £573. Ooch.

I'd have a 1.9TDi any day of the week now. I've fitted mine with a kit (See gallery) and I love it to bits.

The sound system as standard is good, BOSE will blow you away. Very good set up.

Brake discs are soft and prone to rotting / warping IMO, I saw THREE A4's today all on 53 plates with new discs and pads (Front discs and pads £245)

HTH matey.

Oh and retro fit the ambient lighting. Looks nuts!

I ran an 04 reg. 1.8T (190) S-Line Quattro saloon in 2004 & early 2005 as a company car. Did 37k, mainly motorway in 12 months, which inluded a trip round Europe & a lap of the 'Ring. No problems at all, one AVS service at 16K (needed another when it went back) and never needed any oil (unlike my S4!). Exterior & interior wore superbly and the leather particularly was of very good quality.

my PD130 1.9TDi (2003 53 plater) is just due its 2nd service at 45,000 miles on AVS. Its is running a bit naff i have to say and i am taking it off AVS and onto fixed 10k servicing which i am doing myself.

Got all the parts to do a 40k service: oil, filter, fuel filter, pollon filter, seal kits as required, all for £65 delivered. 2 hrs labour tops plus a full vehicle check and oiling of hinges etc. ontop. Discs and pads on mine are mint - all changed at 26k when i bought the car!!! 169144-ok.gif

Expect another 2 years out of it and then i will change..... wink.gif

I think most engines should easily make the 100,000 mile mark these days, but from what I've seen, and also experienced with my last Audi (A6), most Audi engines will last double that (if taken care of!).

My A6 had reached over 185,000 and still sounded great. I've now got an 04 1.9TDi (130) with 60k and it runs and looks as new (apart from getting my first car park dint at the weekend... SAUER0421.GIF)

I'm slightly concerned at the prices on this thread for a cambelt change though.... The service manual states that it needs to be changed at 80k, but I'd rather have it done every 60k. £500 sounds a bit harsh EEK2.GIF

I sold my A4 on Y plate with 92K miles on and it drove great. Interior looked good too (leather). Did have a problem with aircon compressor so need to check that out, apart from that if looked after it should do 250K miles + no problem. 1.9 tdi is a very strong engine, one that we will keep cherishing for years to come. At the moment i have a Passat on the same engine and it has 94K on the clock and it goes really well. 169144-ok.gif

Our last A5 saloon was a 1.9TDi and was incredibly tight at 60k.

The car itself was immaculate and the engine was sound.

Our current one is the 2.5TDi and has 80,000 miles on it. Again, it's looking good and the engine is in fine fettle.

Of course, it depends entirely on the type of driving that the car does to reach those miles.

An ex-taxi with 100,000 miles on it won't be in as good shape as an ex-company car that did long trips on motorways.

Both of ours were ex-company cars, had full Audi service histories and have been great.

dude - it's 60k MAX for the 1.9TDi PD130. The 80k belt change is for the 2,5TDi. Get it done ASAP!!!!! blush.gif Already been one go pop recently on here and he had to buy and fit a new engine!!

£500 main dealer price - £300-350 realistic indy garage. You need to remove the whole front end of the car to do the job. Stupid fecking design!

It was £400 on the 1.9 and £500 on the 2.5.

Unfortunately, we sold our 1.9 about a month after getting it done and bought our 2.5 with 70k on it and had to get that done in less than a year.

It's been expensive this year wrt to servicing...

Bought one. Thanks for all the input from you chaps in the buying process. smile.gif

It's a 2003/03 Audi A4 Avant TDi (130) SE Manual [5] in Mauritius Blue with Black interior with 53,000 miles.

The cambelt's been done.

It's going to be a town and motorway machine only, thus didn't want a Sport (I have a Peugeot 306 GTI-6 for that)

Looking forward to being around a little more in the future.

Ted
