Ska
Its in the fuse box next to the accelerator pedal: what symptoms do you have as I had a prob with my 2.8 a while back and it wasn't the fuel pump itself. What level is your fuel gauge at and did the car just cut out on you or is just not starting from cold? spares from vagparts or the stealer
charlie61
if it's the pump these are considerably cheaper than audi, you need to check the part is the same number though, my 4.2Q came with a bill for over £700 from audi for a fitted fuel pump. http://www.bba-reman.com/catalogue/Product.aspx?product=6764
Ska
£700 is cheaper than my £889 quoted by the stealers and the fuel pump wasn't even to blame for the lack of fuel to the engine
kersley
Hi. i WAS DRIVING THEN THE ENGINE CUT OUT. I THEN STARTED IT THE SECOND TIME AND AGAIN IT CUT OUT. ON THE THIRD TIME IT CERTAINELY FELT LIKE IT HAD RUN OUT OF PETROL. I THEN TRIED TO START IT AND IT JUST WOULD NOT. THE AA MAN CAME AND HE STARTED IT WITH SOME SPRAY THAT HE SPRAYED IN THE AIR INTAKE PART. HE THEN SAID THAT THE RELAY OR PETOL PUMP IS NOT WORKING. ANY IDEA ?? SneakyMcC
[ QUOTE ] £700 is cheaper than my £889 quoted by the stealers and the fuel pump wasn't even to blame for the lack of fuel to the engine [/ QUOTE ] Did you then ask for your money back if that wasn't the fault? I have decided that in future, all parts replaced come back to me cause I have the hump with garages (not just stealers) doing this! Garages will be a lot more cautous about spending our gelt, if they dont get paid for the screw-up's
Ska
I tried calling you but no answer; If the AA man did a check on the fuel pump (hopefully he lifted the panel on the boot floor and tried a direct live feed to the terminals of the fuel pump), and says it responeded then it could be either the relay (simple fix), blocked fuel filter (resonably easy fix) or the sender unit and corregated pipes inside the fuel tank (nightmare fix- better to get second hand fuel tank and replace). The last one was my problem even though fuel gauge was registering about 1/2 -1/3 full the car would not start up. Thats because there is a seal on the sender unit that goes bad and or one of the corregated pipes that suck fuel from the corners of the tank split; this then causes air bubbles and fuel starvation. I had my fuel tank replaced. But for you I would suggest first looking at the level of the fuel gauge is it about 1/2- 1/3 full and not starting if so then you have the same problem as mine and you'll need a new tank including the sender unit which hasn't benn removed from it beacuse the seal is a nightmare to get right. second replace the fuel pump relay and se if that makes a difference. third check and replace the fuel filter its in front of the rear passanger wheel inside a flap. Ska
Thats what I said to them because they wouldn't commit to saying that the replacing the fuel pump would defo. fix the problem. When I said if it doesn't I'm not going to pay you for that they said that if the fuel pump had given you trouble once then it wasn't a trust worthy component and their policy would e to replace it, so they would have to charge me... I then said well if the problem isn't fixed then there was nothing wrong with the fuel pump to begin with and you just diagnosed the problem incorrectly and chucked out a completely fine pump and the techy just looked at me blank

Ska
So long as you're abosolutely sure that the pump is dead then I would really reccomend a mechanic to do it. But the thing your looking at is the cover (see here) . You've defo. got the right fuel pump by the sounds of it its about 2" diameter and 5" long and wieghs a bit for its size. I will post what ever instructions there are in the audi manual later in the evening. but look at the link of when i had this trouble THIS IS THE LINK OF WHEN I HAD THE SAME TROUBLE
