cabby
Our garden is currently home to a family of foxes - mum, dad and four cubs. They are causing increasing amounts of damage and I want to remove them (Tony Soprano style 'removal'). I've tried the liquid scent that they are supposed to dislike and a £40 infrared thingy thay emits a noise they are also supposed to hate. Neither have been effective and they are still resident. I've even tried leaving my own scent Any non-shotgun related suggestions would be very welcome.

drpellypo
We've had foxes on the farm, and after doing some research, found the Fox Project, 01892 545 468. And there's the National Fox Welfare number - 01933 411 996. They can tell you the best (humane) way to get rid of them.

Tarmac_Terrorist
You need to contact your local 'Hoo-Rah-Henry Brigade' often seen on horseback on a Sunday morning wearing red jackets with Captain Birdseye style buttons and blowing horns like Italian taxi drivers Alternatively anyone driving a relatively new Range Rover will be able to put you intouch. cabby
[ QUOTE ] Fox removal?????? [/ QUOTE ] Lottie sorry for the scare. Unless I catch you in my back garden eating through one of my plants and crapping on my deck you should be fine.
cabby
Thanks for the phone numbers - will give them a try and see what they say. Bat = Would be satisfying if only i could catch them. Air rifle = thought about this but not sure my wooden fence would protect my neighbours from a stray pellet so wary of doing so ditto for a shotgun. Military explosives = Hmmmmm.... Wallachie
Borrow a friends dog for a weekend, preferably something quite big; that will scare the fook out of them and should keep them away.
cabby
I tried the websites suggested above (c/o drpellypo) and got in contact with a chap who provides a ‘humane animal deterrence’ service. Given the damage the little beasties have caused I was tempted to employ the services of an inhuman service but it appears that the humane approach is likely to be the most effective in the longer term. I had a good chat with him on the phone and concluded he knew his stuff so arranged for him to visit and provide some further advice (£55 and he was there for about 1.5 hours). Apparently our biggest problem is that we have wooden decks in each corner of the garden which are on stilts (the garden sloped quite severely and the decks level this out). This creates an almost perfect environment for a fox den hence without knowing it I’d created a des res fox pad! He recommended a ‘scarecrow’ which is a hybrid water sprinkler / PIR detector. The unit sprays a jet of water at anything that comes into its field of ‘vision’. The chap said that this is the most effective deterrent he has come across (he has tested a number of ultrasonic type devices and concluded that these are generally ineffective). He also suggested removing a few planks from the deck to make the foxes feel as uncomfortable as possible. Judging by the crying/screeching we heard last night this seems to be working. Apparently the aim is to make the mother fox feel as uncomfortable as possible resulting in her leading the cubs to somewhere safer. Hope this may be helpful for anyone else experiencing similar problems.
