Kell
Had my 02 2.5 TDI for just over a year and it's currently on 82,000 miles and needs a service. IIRC we bought it with 70,000 miles on it and it needed a service at about 72,000. Now, with my TT, I'm used to getting around 17,000 miles between AVS services, so am wondering if this is normal for AVS on a diesel, and if it is, then £363 is a bit steep for an annual service in my opinion. Are there any options to switiching it back to fixed as it seems they're cheaper services and seem to be coming at about the same intervals anyway. PS - had the cam-belt done at 80k too. Lynas
The servicing is down to the way you drive the car. Mine was serviced yesterday, so i've literaly been driving like a grandad, until it shows how many miles I've got left. If you yark it everywhere, or short stop/start trips then the service will come around sooner than expected and you'd probs be better off on fixed servicing. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the way you drive for the first few days, i then takes that as how you drive generally. However, I may be wrong. Kell
Well - it's a commuter car, so I can understand that the servicing intervals are coming round more quickly, but the half what I'd expected to get seems excessive.
Lynas
I agree. If you're seriously worried about it, give Audi a ring and explain. They'll probably say the same, style of driving. Have you checked the oil level recently?
Kell
Yeah - I posted here a little while ago as the oil warning light kept coming on but got no responses... However it turned out that there must have been a fault with one of the sensors as it wasn't running short. Needed a top up, but nothing major. Since we took it in for them to have a look at, they reset something with the old VAGCOM and it's been fine ever since. However, we have just been told that they ordered in a new sensor and we're going to have to pay for it - which I think is out of order.
Lynas
Have they fitted the sensor?
Kell
Nope. That's why I think they're out of order. Certanly not going to pay for a part they haven't fitted and I don't need - whether they've ordered it in or not. I don't hink my Missus will let them get away with it either. Anyhow, back OT again, just called them and they said no problems switiching it from AVS to fixed.
Soapsuds
get it off the AVS if you plan to keep a hold on it for a while. It's better for the engine - just ask Shark_90. My PD130 is going onto fixed now, as i am keeping it for another 2 years and doing the servicing myself. Mine is now due its 2nd ever service and is on 45k miles. Last AVS at 26,000 - woman owner before me!!!
Lynas
How much cheaper is it on AVS?

Lynas
That's exactly what I meant...
Kell
I think it's around 50-60% of the price. It depends on whether you want smaller bills more often, or bigger bills more often - or at least it's meant to be the case. To get the big bills every 12 months is ridiculous. UBM
My first AVS is now 1800 miles away! And the car is 14 months old now....
Kell
Well, I switched it. Turns out the car had done about 13,000 miles since last service, so it wasn't worth (in my eyes) keeping it on AVS given that I was paying £150 more to get another 3,000 miles out of it. THey got their money though as it also needed a new coolant temperature sender (something we knew about) and they didn't fit the oil level sensor that they said they were going to charge us for as it turned out that just resetting last time did the job. All in all a good service again from Aylesbury Audi. And they even washed it properly this time (the outside at least). I normally tell them not to bother as it's crap, but forgot. Luckily, when I had the after-service call last time I told them it was poorly cleaned, and maybe they listened.
