harj
Had a dent repaired on the right side of the front bumper. I'm happy with the work but noticed that the other side of the bumper looks slighty more polished and therefore more reflective than the side that has been worked on. My question is how would i get that side looking as shiny as the other. The guy did have to respray about a quarter of the bumper to blend in the paint with the rest of the car but 1) it doesn't look as shiny and 2) it doesn't feel as smooth. What can you recommend i do to get both sides looking exactly the same? Polish then wax or just wax?
johnss8
Probably use a mildly abrasive polish then wax on top that should bring the shine back
harj
would Megs stage 2 polish then Gold class wax be good enough?
McGee
Depending on how different the match is something like megs 80 or ssr2 with a yellow pad on a pc will probably be a good start also the paint will be quite soft and the polish may take off more than you need. Then follow up with megs 7 new car glaze then a sealant then wax. Don't do it for about 3-4 weeks as the paint will need to cure and dry out and if you put a sealant on this will stop the paint 'breathing' and you will end up with trouble later on. As it is VAG paint I wouldn't bother trying to do this by hand. It may be that you need to send it back as they haven't got the paint mix right. [/ QUOTE ] Presumably this would apply to a brand new car as well ? Working on the basis that I receive mine approx 3 weeks after it is built. Or is a factory paint job different ? PS. Sorry for (temporarily) hijacking the thread.

I think he didn't polish or wax the area properly. I wont call him back just yet, as you say i'll wait until 3 weeks have passed then i'll give it a go myself. Whats this SSR2 stuff?? Paddy_Driver
[ QUOTE ] Whats this SSR2 stuff?? [/ QUOTE ] Have a look here - comes in different grades based on abrasiveness. Think SSR might stand for "Super Swirl Remover" but cannot be sure - sounds good anyway SSR2 Linky Paddy
johnss8
Poorboys SSR can be applied by hand but is mainly designed for machine polishing as are the majority of swirl removers. IMO wait for the paintwork to cure then try your stage 2 and Gold class
