DaveS3
I`ve decided the time has come to change my beloved S4, can`t justify the cost anymore. I`ve settled on a Sportback 2.0tq S-Line. I`ve looked around at used and ex-demo`s and am a bit confused: I`ve sort of cleared up one problem (on another thread) where some of the grills differ i.e. some have the bolder s-line grill and some don`t was this an option on older models and is it standard on later models? Also I`ve noticed looking at some of your own piccies that most have chrome rear pipes but I have seen a couple at dealers without?? Am I doing the right thing looking at ex-demo`s some of you guys seem to have specced well on new and got discount on list. It also seems that none of the cars i`ve seen so far have been spec`d with xenons they seem hard to find, lastly, my S4 at the mo is ebony black and am tempted to go black again but I do like the look of Lava grey any comments on this as a colour? All feedback on the above gratefully received, cheers.
cw955
Was going to order Lava as it really looks superb. However, the Lava Grey I saw at the dealer was parked next to a Black one. Now, on its own Lava looks really good, but parked next to a black car it looks sort of dusty. So that convinced me to go Black (just in case a black car parked next to me (makes sense to me)). Lava Grey might be easier to keep clean - washed mine four times in 9 days of ownership!

[/ QUOTE ] I also looked at the ex demo's on the A3 sline special editions and only found a small discount compared to the specification on a new one about £600. (this was without haggling so could have been better) I decided to go for new and was able to get about a 10% discount and the exact spec and colour I wanted. All of the demos had options i didn't want or missed ones I wanted. The only problem is the 12 week wait. Using what car target price helped get the 10% discount. CarMad
The exahaust are twin chrome on all 2.0T Petrol A3s. They are not on the diesels however so that could be the confusion.
Fergy
I think 'Cjhrome' is a bit of an overstatement. Mine have discoloured really quickly (<6 months). Dave interesting move in cars. I was thinking the exact opposite from a A3 2.0T DSG to a S4. Whats the prob with the S4. PS the seats in the A4 are far superior to the A3 esp the base. BLACK is the only way(See galleries). LAva looks purplely in some lights

[/ QUOTE ] I`ve had my S4 for 2 and a half years and am loathed to get rid, it felt like a natural progression for me after two S3`s but after all this time i`ve put 52k on the clock and am still doing a 60mile round trip a day to work on a V8 so the fuel is costing me loads in tax as I put it through my business, and also I pay a fortune a month with Audi finance and this is hard to justify on a nearly 3 yr old car the other thing is my warranty is up! SO i`m trying to think with my head and not my heart and do the right thing. I think S-line sportbacks look great, I dont really need a big car but dont want to go back to a hatch either so this seemed a nice compromise, having said all of that I`ll shed a tear none the less
RobK
Hi Dave, I did a similar thing and swapped my 3 year old RS4 for an A3 TDI s-line. I have to say that although I miss the performance I still think it was a good move. The full warranty and fixed cost maintenance do ease the mind! I don't think I've seen Lava Grey so I can't comment on that. I'm told you can fit chrome exhaust tips to the TDI, although I never got around to it myself. I wouldn't skip the xenons though - once you're used to them you can never go back! Oh, I got a 7% discount on mine by taking a printout from Broadspeed to the dealer. [/ QUOTE ] Hi, I was wondering about this to. I've got a 2.0 Diesel due to arrive next week and was hoping for the chrome pipes, does anyone know if this is something i can add ? I spoke to the dealer before i read this and they said that they didnt know why some had them and some didnt but "if they didnt cost to much" they'd add them on for me... Just wondering if anyone knows anymore... Ta, Al.
RobK
My dealer told me that there are some chrome tailpipes that you can get which go over the top of the curved pipes on the TDI. I was going to to get them but never got around to it. I understand some people on here have had them fitted though.

What do you mean by getting discount with broadspeed?
Dblanc
When I got my A3 I walked in with a printout from uknewcars.co.uk and got the dealer to within £50 of the price. Uknewcars seemed to have a bigger discount on Audi's than Broadspeed. One tip is to get them to match the price for the basic car and then ask for the same percentage off the options. Most web sites won't discount the options. Good luck with the deal.
