Had an accident today [not my fault].

car is my Audi A4 1.9TDi bought June 04 [so still under warranty]

Will need some bodywork an tyre/alloy replacement. it is driveable.

I am with Firt Alternative who obviously want me to get it booked into their approved garage; told if i want to take it to Audi to do it would involve a 2 week wait for engineer to review work required.

Currently FASH. Should i insist on Audi repair or let the Insurers take it?

Don't let it go to ADR whatever you do. I had two very bad experiences with them in April 04. A complete shambles in my opinion. Other than that, I'd let the insurers take it TBH - but go tot he bodyshop and meet the guys there and build up a relationship with them 169144-ok.gif

pretty sure most audi garages now have a accident scheme

you ring them and they do the lot repair car /liase with insurance company and supply replacement audi of similar spec whilst yours is off the road .

i know stanstead audi do cos i remember getting the bumf through the post last week about it.

might be worth giving them or your local dealer a ring .

I had some twot key my car from one end to another last September and I didn't want it to go to any other Garage than an Audi one. In the end, the Insurers explained that it will take a lot longer to do it that way round.

I let it go to a local repair centre and they did a very good job. I was advised by a fair number of people to let the Insurers take it as they vet these garages very strictly.

If the accident isn't your fault, there's various firms who take over from you and get your car repaired, while providing you with a comparable replacement, and also pursuing the other party for loss of no claims etc. and your insurance company have zero input in the affair. Might be worth a shot. I can't recall the name of any of them. Anyone?

Surely whoever is to blame you have a say in who, to a certain extent, repairs your car?

Not expert advice but....

1. Does your Audi dealer even have a body shop or will they sub the work anyway?

2. Do you want Audi to know about a prang? If every visit to a dealer goes onto their computer then they may be benefits to having the prang repaired by a bodyshop rather than Audi. (Not recomending you go to a backstreet bodyshop though.)

3. You can ask Audi if it affects the warrenty (don't tell 'em your name Pike.) If it does then INSIST they do it, otherwise you are loosing out to save your insurance co £££££

Agreed. ADR are to be avoided like the plague. Took them 3 times to get my brothers Celica repaired to something like reasonable. And they have crap micra courtesy cars. As far as I could see, the only benefit of going with them was to get a courtesy car. Would have been better off renting a car for the MONTH they had it !!

There is a dedicated Smith Knight Fay VAG Bodyshop here in Manchester/Stockport

I did. He said that it doesn't in so far as Audi don't have to repair it as long Audi-approved parts and paints etc are used. If [for example] it is repaired elsewhere and in 2 year the repair area were to develope corrosion the Audi would reject any claim out of hand.

I told him about the 2 week wait [no name/reg # given] and he said I could bring the car to him tomorrow and he could give me a quote [he is based at the VW dealership and fax the quote to First Alternative and take it from there....

Confused now! confused.gif

Guys who are ADR. The Insurers offered me their local repairer Robert-Burgess-Someoneorother, or they could contact Aquilo motor Services as they have a wider network of garages and could track down an Audi-approved one...Are AMS they same as ADR??

Dont know who AMS are. The ADR our youth used was in Chesterfield, Derbys. ADR was the insurer approved repairer - they rang my brother when he reported the accident to the inurance comany.

look up adrbodyshop.com to see if your suggested garage is on their list. Oh, just had a look myself, their site is 'under construction', but there is an email link.

If the accident wasn't your fault I would contact these guys www.europaconsultants.co.uk . There is a guy on pistonheads called anniesdad who either owns it or works for them not sure which. They are able to sort out the whole process and you should get a hire car of the same spec as the one that is being repaired. It would seem that a few people on pistonheads have used him and I have heard nothing but praise.

to be fair I have not had any problem with that side of things; Firts Alternative immediiately contacted Drive Assist wo will give me a car "similar to what i have" once my car is booked into a garage - unless the garage have one i want and lef tit to me to decide where i wanted it repaired.

I think maybe i will let VAG-man quote me but am now suddeny all paranoid abotu the comment of having Audi know about the prang and it going on their computer etc??? Not really sure about the raminifications of this anyway as surely at sellign time they'd ask if it was in an acciden and i'd have to admit to it so it is better tey know the damage was not to severe and where it was etc?? confused.gif

If Audi repair the car, it should not affect anyhting, especially not the resale value as it has been repaired to manufacturers spec.

I would go to Audi for a quote but make sure they do not sub it out to a different repairer.

AMS (Aquilo) are an accident management company who may have links to your insurer and their own network of approved repairers

Aha thanks Chris. I plan to do just that:

get a quote from the VAG bodyshop manager [and make sure it is done inhouse] but the Insurers recommened repairer is a outfit called Robert BUrgess Coachworks in Stockport [who ar a member of the vehicle builders and repairers association....whatever that means!] too so I may swing by there too to get their engineer to have a look and question them about genuine audi parts and paint system etc.

Either way Drive assist will then sort me a car.
