SneakyMcC
The wife called to say the 8 stalled twice today! This was within 400yrds from leaving the house? (couple hundred yrds, stalled and then couple hundred yrds stalled again)? It was faultless afterwards. I have started the car a few times recently only for it to stall straight away (no immob light tho). She (the 8!) is well over due a service, but is the likely to be the prob? cruiser647
Maybe the spark plugs need cleaning or replacing (cheaper if you do that, rather than the stealer!!) and the air filter might be clogged?
SneakyMcC
Good points, I prolly wont get to have a look until next week tho!
SneakyMcC
She got a good thrapping last night (the 8 y’fool! We’re married) so that might have gotten rid of a few cobwebs ? But do I remember a thread where the MAF (or summit) effected the gearbox? The box has become quite thumpy at times. Its been about 40k since the last ATF change and again, I think I read on here that 40k was the mileage between changes recommended.... Any offers? Teebags
I had an identical problem on my old A4 a few years ago and after hours of investigation I found out it was the reader coil on the ignition. Basically the part that reads the chip in your key. It's a semi-common fault in Audi's across the board I hear but not an expensive part to replace. SneakyMcC
The mill is hunting a little on start up and is very slightly lumpy! 1 pot not firing wouldn't stop it starting or cause the stalling would it?

SneakyMcC
Yeah she starts up. Sometimes she needs a couple of cranks. Thats all. She stalled on me this morn about 30secs after starting up and pulling away. I opened the door to see if I could here the fuel pump. I could here a gurgling sound(?) but could not tell from where the noise was coming
Ska
You don't think its the TB do you or ISV?, does it stall clean or hunt before it stalls? if so might be worth try the throttle position reset worth a peak
SneakyMcC
TB = Throttle Bodies does it? But whats ISV? It does seem a bit all over the place when it starts, but if its hunting (not badly) I dont think it stalls. The linky didnt work? here was some procedures on here t'other day me thinks... Edit: Where the phuck has Audiworld gone?
Ska
ISV = Idle stabilisation valve, it get carbon and crap stuck in there and gets blocked. Its located at the back of the engine to the left near the TB, it allows a set mass of air to by pass the TB when the TB closes(when you take your foot off the go go pedal). If thats block it cuts out. Do a ssearch on ISV on TSN we've covered this topic before

Ska
With reference to other post about fuel pump Where did you hear the bubbling sound from, the tank? if so how much fuel is the gauage registering? If its below 1/3 then top it up to about 1/2 with some cans and if she starts up then, oh oh its that seal in the tank or one of the corregated pipes or try starting it by spraying some easy start into the air inlet as close to the TB as possible
SneakyMcC
I didnt get out the car, but I think it was prolly from the rear. The tank was prolly less that 1/3 full....
