jimmyt180975
After washing my Mk4 R32, i noticed just how dirty the inside of the headlight protectors have become. As i have only recenty bought my R32 and i gave it its first wash under my ownership, can anyone give any tips on how to go about cleaning the inside of them before i start messing about. Any tips for removing the protectors so i can clean them? Also, any recommendations for products for me to use to shine the tyre walls without the stuff running down onto the alloys? Cheers
Calm Chris
Lift up the bonnet and all will be obvious with the h/l protector removal. They clip off quite easily, but do be careful the protector plastic seems to get brittle with age . Sort of job you do a couple of times a year, not every wash

Pincher
If you manage to get them off without cracking them, I would recommend putting a dob of vaseline on each of the nodules before refitting. This should help prevent them sticking to the headlamp.
Tarmac_Terrorist
I've used headlamp protectors on various cars over the years and found that applying Rain-X on both the lamp units and also the inside of the headlamp protector kept them clean for a long time thus requiring less frequent removal As for tyre shine, I just tried some lovely smelling Meguiars purple gel like stuff. Cracking finnish but don't yet know if it runs or not when the wheel gets wet. Worth doing searches in the 'Cleaning Forum'

Cheers [/ QUOTE ] Just lift the bonnet and pull the covers gently from the bottom until they pop out and then lift off the catch. As for the tyre walls, i use Turtle wax spray (easily aviailable in halfords) and its the best stuff ive used. Really puts a shine on the tyre and lasts for ages
Fieldgate
I was advised by some VW dealer that the Mk IV protectors are not suitable for the R32, because of the heat put out by the Xenons. In the esteemed view of the board, is this complete horse & I should just put them on anyway ? TIA Chris

[/ QUOTE ] It is nothing to do with the heat from the Xenons - it is to do with the fact that the plastic can distort the light beam if it gets scratched or chipped, making it illegal, or dirt getting in between the cover and the headlight glass, again with the same effect of distorting the light. Whether or not I agree with this sentiment is a different issue.
