Woppum
http://www.track-challenge.com/main_e.asp compare the two. It seems the R32 is slower to 60 for some reason butfaster on the track. You have to take these with a pich of salt I think but a bit of fun
R32North
Me thinks the details are pish!!!!!!!!! MKV GTi, 6.8 secs to 60 - debateable, as its supposed to be 7.2s, but I guess it could be. R32, 7.1 secs to 60. me thinks not. 6.6 or quicker in standard form. I had one at the same time as my mate got a new GTi and he was of no doubt the R32 was quicker to 60. I reckon as mine loosened up it was down to about 6.3s (exhaust, VW map and filter, approx 255hp). I find it odd that these sites exist when their facts are inaccurate. Mook
It's great to see a direct comparison, but there are so many variables to take into account, such as how the 0-60 test was carried out (2 people, half a tank, 0-100 Km/h), as well as whether they had the same driver doing the laps of the track. To get consistent results, you have to have the same driver in both cars for a number of laps and then cross-match the two.
winrya
of every review i have read, the slowest anyone has tested the gti to 60 is 6.8 secs. Pretty much all others have timed it at 6.7. I've no idea why vw quote 7.2 as it clearly isnt???
Woppum
The R32 in my opinion is far faster than that. Im sure I will pop the 60 in around or below 5.5ish consistently. You have to remember this test was done before the 6434 update. Before this i think my car would have been lucky to hit 10 secs to 60!!! Still there are a few good comparisons on there. s4_sat
VW and Audi tend to be a bit conservative when quoting 0-60mph figures. propbably to make people who aren't fast drivers think they are driving the car quickly when they're not going quickly at all. [/ QUOTE ] Plus a sub 7 sec car may attarct higher insurance premiums than one which is a tad over 7 secs to 60.... and therefore insurance quotes for potential buyers may be off-putting. Tarmac_Terrorist
I think VW had to be careful marketing the GTI & the R32 as performance in some aspects is very similar (0-60). Virtually all the motoring journals have quoted their test times for the GTI as sub 7 seconds. I'm not doubting the R32 is overall a faster more accomplished car but 0-60 is very much a 'pub talk' benchmark and very important marketing statistic. It's in VW's interest to keep the two car's performance apart IMO
