ChrisBuer
I went out last night and unfortunately the truck in front of me decided to flick up some stones Upon looking at the car this morning, I can see 3 small chips on my bonnet that are white in colour (my car is dark silver) so it looks as if they have gone right through the paint. Is there anything I can do to repair these? A friend of mine has said not to bother with a touch-up pen as it will only show more. I really don't know what do to….maybe some wax? T-Cut I don’t think will help as it's more of a chip than a scratch. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Chris.
tomo10
I washed my car last night as well and noticed a few on the bonnet. It’s a bit annoying considering its 2 weeks old. Is VW paint just thin or something?! Far more annoying was the body coloured rubbing strip on the passenger door that someone with a blue car has clearly opened their door onto. It’s left a "gouge" in the plastic and my eye just gets drawn to it every time I go near the car. Stone chips are unavoidable whereas opening doors is downright careless. Sorry, I have not offered any solutions there but you’re not alone!
P_G
Buy a touch up kit from the stealer (paint + lacquer). Only way to do it really, Chipsaway won't really touch bonnets unless right on the edge as it is the easiest place to show respray marks. And a respray doesn't always work as the colour match and finish is hard to match.. You can do a decent job with touch up but you'll still notice it, but it's better than big white marks. Good luck! bpsmith
I dont really advocate coloured polish at all but I think you can buy coloured polish with a coloured Wax touch in stick free with them? Saw them in Halfrauds a while back. I would not bother with the polish but if you can buy the wax stick separately then would be worth a punt? Obviously this will not last but if you apply it and Wax over it as normal it should stay for a while? Cheap way of doing things but safer than respray or touch in paint? s3ollie
try Mer scratch and stone chip removing kit from halfords get also a touch up paint kit of the right colour. you fill the chip with paint then lacquer (I mixed the two) until its proud of the surrounding paint then wet sand back to the finished level. after just buff out with scratch remove. instruction (slightly better than mine) are included in a vidio. i have tried it and i would get a higher grit paper than supplied as i think it scratches too deep. bpsmith
That sounds quite involved and risky? What sort of results did you end up getting.
s3ollie
I have done a chip on the bonnet and to be honest I can tell its there only very close up in bright sunlight because I know where to look and like I said I think the paper they give you in the kit is too coarse. I think some more buffing will prob get the virtually unnoticeable scratches out. If I used a higher grit paper or buffed it for longer I think it would be 99-100% unnoticeable. if it goes wrong or you don’t fancy doing it your self you could hire a SMART repair tradesman to do it for you. if you look on TSN or detailingworld.net there is a good guide to wet sanding
JonnyGTi
What grade of wet sandpaper is recommended for this sort of thing and where can you get it ?
s3ollie
i think 1500 grit paper is the lowest. good hardware shops should have it.
