skifly
well looks like my neighbour parked his 3.5 tonne truck next to my car and let the door swing a little too much - he has put a small mark (dent and not scratch) into my rear quarter panel. AND to make matters worse i still havent had time to write up about the repairs littleknocks did for me after the opposite side got keyed. Anyways i know it was him as the mark is too high on the panel for anything other than a big 4x4 or the transit/truck thingy. Plus it was done overnight as it wasnt there the night before. So what do you reckon i do? They have only just moved in and wouldnt know what to say - "Hi i'm your neighbour and fix my fricking car you plick!" Its not bad but something i will now see every time i get into my car.
stevie_d
I'd confront him but don't be confrontational...not that it makes sense! Basically, ask him if it was him and if he denies it then come back here and I'm sure we can come up with a plan
nhs
A well tricky situation
John_Doe
If indeed the 3.5 tonne truck is his day car that means he is probably accustomed to routinely rubbing up alongside or indeed recklessly allowing doors and perhaps even attachments on said vehicle to come into contact with other vehicles and he may not give 2 hoots to you accusing him of damaging your car.....tread carefully as one might just get more than one bargains for!!! Have you noted any twin axle caravans parked outside your house with wood fires burning on the pavement or the appearance in recent times of gibberish speaking door to door knife sharpeners??? If so count your losses, sell up and move across town PDFQ....

skifly
nope they dont seem the traveller types - but did watch them painting the outside woodwork yesterday - didnt have the heart to tell them that the whole block is getting a repaint in a couple of weeks. This is pretty tricky and not really sure what to do. May just hope i happen to meet him in the carpark and mention that it might be a problem. Really not impressed about it. Snoopy
You could start a conversation with them if there outside once it gets to a friendly stage of the conversation just drop into it something like you didn't noticed someone with a car with high doors slightly knock my car the other night? RedRobin
As Geoff suggests - The polite and diplomatic approach will have more chance of success. You achieve more with honey than vinegar. If your gf/partner/wifey is more skilled at diplomacy then ask her to talk to them.
Muppetboy
Sorry to hear about this mate, what a bummer. Your GTI really is in the wars! Doubt there's much you can do with the neighbour to be honest... if he were going to own up ,should you ask him, he would have come to you to own up in the first place. But on the other hand why should he get away with it? hmmm, difficult one. Just deck him instead...
skifly
cheers muppetboy - but he's a big fecker! Will probably just mention it if i get a chance. so does anyone know how easy it is to get to the inside of the rear quarter skin on a 3dr? skifly
maxy - my car just had the whole passenger side resprayed, new passenger door, respray on bonnet and a ding on the drivers wing removed. Only got it done a few weeks ago. Thankfully this is not too bad but annoying me all the same. My car is in a private parking area behind my house and looks like the neighbours are just moving in hence the truck. Wondered how easy it is to get to the inside of the rear quarter for a smart repair?
Tarmac_Terrorist
Sorry to hear yet more bad news with your GTI Skifly - not blessed with luck is it! I've also found a very very slight dent in the rear quarter about 6-8 inches back from the from door on the drivers side. I can't see it unless I really search for it....but I keep searching for it. I picked it up the first time I put it in a public car park. I decided not to fix it as it's so slight I couldn't justify £60 or so but I'm not sure I can live with it as I'm very fussy! I also don't know of a decent local company who fix well at a sensible price.
skifly
well to be honest the car has done 12000 miles now so i have to expect a little wear and tear. Besides the keying i guess the car has been great and i couldnt be happier with it!
Stabb
Why don't you just get down to Halfords and buy him a set of anti-door bump strips as a present to put on his truck doors. That'll give him the necessary message...
Maxyboy
these cars are double skinned as far as i can make out but a dent master type person should be able to fix a dent no probs.....had my passenger door done b4 it left the dealers.....i do feel for u my friend.....dont give up on it....keep faith with the car..... skifly
i love the car - wouldnt get rid of it for something silly like this but to be honest i am a bit of a fanatic about stuff like this... especially as i officially (as can be) have the fastest GTI on TSN so far round the carlimits track. Must be that the laser blue is the fastest. Still might give a few stationary places a call and see if they have any big boxes of bubble wrap... fresco1
I use something similar on mine - wide, clear plastic strips with magnetic bit at the top. They can deflect quite a bang ... only problem is I had one nicked in a car-park. Personally I wouldn't even mention a ding to the neighbour, you just never know how people take these things. As my mother always says - you never have peace with a nice car! Thanks mum ...
