fjfr
Firstly, I just had a service so has this been done or not? - Audi sent me 3 (3!) reminders about it. Second, can I do it myself, and how do I do it if I can? Cheers guys.
Mo-S3
Yes you can, just dont let the abs pump become emptied of fluid. I use a pressurised brake bleeder thats runs from the the spare tyre at 20psi and forces the fluid through the system and the air out. There is a procedure to do this along with bleeding the brakes in the correct sequence too. Just depends on your level of knowledge.
fjfr
[ QUOTE ] Just depends on your level of knowledge. [/ QUOTE ] None! I know where the break fluid thing is, but that's it. can I not just use a hand pump to pump the fluid out & then pour new fluid in?? blix
be careful not to get brakefluid on the paintwork or it will take all the dirt off

fjfr
but I want to do it for free!! PS. What happens if you don't change the fluid?
sitas3
I changed mine yesterday - replaced old fluid with dot 5.1 stuff along with refitting my Porsche front brakes - easy enough if you know how but absolutely not for beginners. If you dont change the fluid regularly then the fluid will start to absorb water and you eventually end up with rust/debris in the lines as well as poor braking performance. Fjfr, Leave this to a garage unless you've done it before.
fjfr
Ok Out of intrest, is it best to chip an S3 or upgrade the suspension (assuming that you have money for 1 only?)
sitas3
Chip. without doubt. Then you'll need better brakes, then suspension etc etc. it won't stop.
fjfr
Yeah, I can't really afford to do more than one (or £1K) but I think that my anti roll brushes are busted, so I thought I'd do suspension.. So no point in suspension without a chip?? PS. Cheers for the advice!!
_Tone_
Amazing had mine done last week at APS in Brackley (£45) and the difference is amazing - I cant believe the difference actually - must have had a lotta water in there. sitas3
[ QUOTE ] So no point in suspension without a chip?? [/ QUOTE ] depends on what you want out of the car. Suspension won't really make the car go faster but will make it more fun to drive unless you constantly hoon around tracks (where you'll get most benefit from suspension upgrades IMO). I plan to take my car on the track and am looking into refitting my old coilovers from a previous S3.
fjfr
It's pretty fast as it is.. better handeling would be nice. I mean the trial chip I had was awesome, don't get me wrong, but it felt like too much for the stock breaks & suspension so if I got a chip I'd end up with that. A better handeling car would be pretty cool, quicker through corners & the like. What suspension mods are best do you think? (I'm looking to spend under £500 if it's poss as have to include insurance, which for a 20 year old is significant.)
Mo-S3
You would really need to go for a coilover setup but they are not cheap. With fitting ans insurance its going to take you way over budget. Suggest you go for a good spring setup which will improve your handling vastly.
fjfr
So H&R sports springs & R32 anti roll bar setup?? AMD quote about £600 supplied, so what £200 to fit? What % insurance increase do we recon? Bearing in mind that a 10% power upgrade (ECU map) was a %10 increase in premium, allthough a 25% power upgrade was 100% increase in premium. PS. Sorry for hijacking my own thread & all the questions!!
