ordered a E92 330D coupe today...due October.

Just need to choose final spec.

current thoughts

Met Black sapphire

Coral red dakota Leather + heated sports seats

Adaptive headlamps to go with the std xenons

No sure if I should go with the sport suspension as it will be pretty firm with 18" runflats

Nice choice mate. 169144-ok.gif

I`ve got the E90 330d M-Sport, and it`s superb !

Regarding spec; if I could suggest Bluetooth ? First time I`ve had Bluetooth in a car, and I find it very convenient.

As regards suspension, I can highly recommend the sports-suspension. Just about perfect in my opinion, as it`s not over-damped, without being too soft. I find you can really hustle along on our great British road surfaces.

335d will come as standard with the new 6 speed auto though ... manual can't take the torque smile.gif ... so when you consider that, the £2110 premium dose'nt seem as bad.

The new 335D will have the same spec as the 335i but as iclarke mentioned unfortunately it is not available in manual box. As you will see in the image the 330D takes a 5 mpg ish hit on fuel over the manual

Its power output will be raised from the 535D's 272 to a stonking 286BHP or the same as the E36 3 litre M3, but with mountains of torque (also raised up from 413 to 428)

330D auto vs 335D

BHP 231 - 286

Torque 369 - 428

0-60 6.7 - 6.1

MPG 38.2 - 37.7 Manual 330D = 43.5 Combined figure

Times have changed since the day when the press went bowdown.gif silly over that M3

e92_UK-specs.jpg

My spec for the 330D is going in this morning..... new option is DAB radio for £280

The 330d I had for 2 days, although it was a touring, felt positively bland compared to my 535d, it really did feel sluggish and I couldn't wait to give it back, I think you made the right choice.

Once you have remapped it you should be seeing 0-60mph times of around 5.1 seconds, as the 535d is 6.5 stock and 5.5 after a remap.

However the big differnce is from 30mph to 130mph, stunning difference!

The twin turbo diesel in stock form is a nice, pretty quick car, after a remap it is a complete beast, enjoy!! 169144-ok.gif

You wont be sorry. Dad has 535d and thats a very quick but refined car. The lighter 3 with more power is a rocket. How long is the wait?

[/ QUOTE ]

The wait is not that much longer (it will feel like an age)...they expect it to be delivered in mid/late october. Build week is 36.

They have tweaked the engine up a tad from the 535D.

Power & torque are up about 4 or 5%.

I would expect that that engine will appear in the 2007 model 535D

I have read that as well as the extra urge the throttle response is keener on the 535 engine...did you find that in the E91 330d?

Who did your remap? I wll wait until late spring and dry roads before it (might) get tweaked. Bank balance should have recovered.

DMS did mine, speak to Mike Cooper there and tell him Guy sent you and ask for a deal. DMS are great, their maps are definitely better hidden than others, plus they will cover any work that is refused by BMW warranty (although not had to as yet) and if BMW overwrite the map they will come back out to you and remap it with no charge. They came to Norfolk to do mine after I had loads of software updates, took him 4hours to get here and 4 hours to get home again, can't as for more than that to be honest.

The E91 330d just felt slow, simple as that, but then my 535d felt slow when I got it back and BMW had wiped the map off so I guess you just get used to what you have. My old man had a 3.0tdi Q s-sline avant for a morning the other day and that felt really lathargic, and I know I thought that was great when I had my A3 tdi s-line.

Thanks for helping me decide to go for the beast...I am sure I will not regret going for it...once the pain of paying for it is forgotten.

Six-cylinder heaven for BMW 3 Series 08/08/2006

BMW is introducing three new six-cylinder powerplants into the BMW 3 Series range for September 2006. The most popular model in the BMW portfolio now encompasses a new twin-turbo 3.0-litre petrol engine, to be badged 335i, and a single turbocharged diesel engine called the 325d. Joining these two new units is the most powerful diesel ever to power a BMW in the UK - a twin-turbocharged 2,993cc engine with 286hp.

Model Power(Hp) Torque(Nm) Zero - 62 mph Top Speed(mph) Combined mpg Emissions(g/km)

BMW 325d Saloon 197 400 7.4 146 44.1 171

BMW 325d Touring 197 400 7.6 145 42.8 176

BMW 335i Saloon 306 400 5.6 155* 29.4 231

BMW 335i Touring 306 400 5.7 155* 28.8 235

BMW 335D Saloon 286 580 6.2 155* 37.7 200

BMW 335D Touring 286 580 6.3 155* 36.7 205

BMW 335D Coupe 286 580 6.1 155* 37.7 200

*Electronically limited .~ 335D Auto only

Following its launch in the 3 Series Coupé range, the 335i-badged cars come to the BMW 3 Series Saloon and Touring ranges offering scintillating performance combined with class-leading consumption, emission figures and enhanced levels of practicality. The heart of the new 335i is a technical tour de force. Its light alloy engine is fitted with two turbochargers, each one feeding three cylinders, and direct injection technology to produce 306hp and 400Nm of torque.

Unlike competitor cars whose forced induction engines suffer from turbo lag, the small turbochargers on the 335i can react more quickly to throttle inputs for increased power output of low revs. Similarly, with peak torque of 400Nm being achieved at just 1,300rpm through to 5,000rpm, the resulting flat torque curve delivers swift in-gear acceleration. Aiding this rapid progress is BMW´s all-new High-Precision Direct Injection system. Piezo injectors, located centrally in the combustion chamber between the inlet and exhaust valves, deliver atomised fuel in a conical burst into the chamber for optimum combustion efficiency.

Such advanced engineering ensures the BMW 335i Saloon dispatches the zero to 62mph sprint in 5.6 seconds while the Touring version completes it in 5.7 seconds, with the top speed of both cars electronically limited to 155mph. In contrast to this high performance, a 335i also offers economical motoring. A 335i Saloon achieves 29.4mpg on the combined cycle and records an emissions figure of 231g/km, while the Touring records 28.8mpg and 235g/km respectively.

Diesel to the power of two Using the most powerful diesel engine BMW has ever offered in the UK, the new 286hp 335d will be available in the 3 Series Saloon, Touring and Coupé models from September 2006. The new 335d also uses twin turbo technology for the ultimate in diesel performance, but the characteristics of diesel power in this 3.0-litre common rail engine mean the turbochargers work in a slightly different way.

Instead of each turbocharger feeding three cylinders, the 335d uses two different-sized units working in sequence. At low engine speeds, the smaller turbocharger is effective immediately, producing 95 per cent of the available torque at just 1,500rpm. By 1,750rpm maximum torque of 580Nm is delivered and, as the engine speed heads towards 4,400rpm, maximum horsepower of 286hp is achieved as a result of the induction air now being compressed by the larger turbocharger.

This wave of torque from such low engine revs enables the 335d Coupé to power from zero to 62mph in 6.1 seconds while the Saloon and Touring versions take 6.2 and 6.3 seconds respectively. All three models, fitted as standard with a six-speed automatic gearbox with steering wheel-mounted paddles for an alternative method of gear change, are electronically limited to a top speed of 155mph, yet are still capable of achieving economical fuel consumption.

The BMW 325d

Customers seeking high levels of performance and economy but in a more affordable package can choose the single turbocharged BMW 325d in the 3 Series Saloon and Touring models. The 197hp car offers the corporate fleet manager and private buyer alike a vehicle that records a combined consumption figure of 44.1mpg for the Saloon and 42.8mpg for the Touring. Corporate buyers will be further cheered by the CO2 emissions figure of 171g/km and 176g/km for the Saloon and Touring respectively - figures that see both fall into a relatively low Benefit in Kind tax rating.

The 3.0-litre engined 325d Saloon is capable of accelerating from zero to 62mph in 7.4 seconds before going on to a top speed of 146mph. A 325d Touring hits 62mph in 7.6 seconds and has a top speed of 145mph.

Are you getting exited?

what do you think?

I didn't realise that the 335D engine has a different block from the 535D. Its 27Kg lighter than the iron block, should help quell understeer.

The Autobox is different as well, supposed to be a very quick change.

.....the next two months will seem an age. But I had best get on with clearing the garage out so we can get two cars in.

I new they were putting the new box in the 335i, but didn't know 335d was getting it aswell.

[/ QUOTE ]

If you look at this PDF file you can see the codes for the boxes shows the ZF 6HP for 325/335 petrol & 330D/335D but different ratios. The 330iA gets a Gm & the manual 325 a getrag

Had a hire car this weekend for work a 1.4 Clio....about as much torque as a trapist monk
