Is my exhaust too Loud?

Just that,

I may be just getting a little sensitive about the aural capability of my s/s system, but with the wife having complained about it since day one and a number of people commneting about it on here, I wonder if I've gone too far?

Although saying that the number of people who think it's an RS4 by the sound is also surprising. I've only had two people say it is not loud enough, my father in law to be and funnily enough a Monaro VXR owner.

What to do?? confused.gif

I've never heard your exhaust, but from my own point of view I'd not want anything louder than the milltek on my car. It's just about right, but I am a bit conscious of it's deep resonance around the 1,800rpm level if i'm ever coming back home early in the morning say.

Mines got the downpipes and cats so is I guess a bit louder. Before we bought it the Mrs was worried about the noise (would the unconcieved baby of the future, be able to sleep in the back). As times gone on she's never mentioned it and our baby has no problems.

I'd just buy Mrs P_G some earplugs. grin.gif

Now there's a thought...... sekret.gif

Mines the same as yours ScoTTy, downpipes, cats and cat back, just not Milltek. It all started when I changed from 70mm fluted tips to 90mm straight throughs. No peace from ear ache since....

I think it's perfect P_G. Heard it a few times now and to be honest it's not that loud (although i am not a pregnent female grin.gif)

I dont think its the volume thats noticable to be honest but the actual tone that it produces. It's a very distinct tone that your car has and i love it 169144-ok.gif

Graeme,

After about two month of my system being on the car, it got noticeably quieter, this was due to several things.

1. The O2 loom had to be replaced where it had literally melted beyond all recognition.

2. The copious amounts of coke deposits from the cats back.

3. My experimentation with differnt fuels. I noticed that every time I topped up with differnt fuel to what I was using the car would get quieter, and would only resume to its normal growl when it had at least 2 full tanks of consistent 97ron. Intersting!!

Also noticed that after 6 runs on Thorney's rolling round the car was back to its original state when the mods were first done. Fantastic. So can heartily recommend a good rolling road sesh to clear the old system out!!

Agreed the tone is more important than the volume. Its great to hear all 8 of those cylinders firing, so bear with it. Can send you a DVD with a Monaro with full headers back system and that should convince the other half that your car is FINE!!!

P_G. Are you getting slightly paranoid after my comments earlier?? Ive not heard it so cant comment. I think subtle is the key, if its too loud then it says chaved up Saxo to me, just loud enough is classy and by the sounds of the comments youre probably there already.

Remember women have more acute hearing sense anyway...so they will complain!

Loud on bike = Fantastic!!! - I always ride with ear plugs.

Loud on car = Not so good if it becomes tiresome, but the A/S4 has good sound proofing so is it really that bad in the car P_G?

The wife still hasn't said a word about the Milltek and I did over 300miles with her in the back yesterday!! grin.gif - 5 up to Le Touquet and back 169144-ok.gif

I've just thought of another idea....

Take the Mrs for a drive and drop the windows, put the arm rest down, open the ski hatch and rev the nuts off it.

When she says it's too loud, say you'll get it fixed.

Then take her for another drive a week later with everything shut and make sure you short shift.

If that doesn't work then I'm afraid you've gotta change it.......

....the wife that is. grin.gif

When I had the Milltek fitted Louise kept saying that the car was too loud and that people don't like it.

Then I heard her telling her friends that it was great the way people turn around to see what's comming when they hear the car. When she is driving it and she sees an A4 she always floors it passing them ROLLEY~14.GIF

She still tells me that it's too loud smirk.gif

Can't get any noise through the ski hatch anyway as it has the ski back in it, probably the most sound insulated part of the rear bench!

Windows are alwasy up and aircom on when the wife is in the car, but anyway, what the hell, can't do anything about it now as all funds are baby related and unless I dip into that I can't change it.

What as shame! grin.gif
