NewNiceMrMe
I've often decried the Chavness of Evo's. I know how technically brilliant they are and I know they'll destroy far more exotic machinery, but I've always found them somewhat Chav and associated the drivers who, frankly, have a screw loose. Well 10 minutes ago my anti-Evo-ness was concreted in. I have just watched a Mitsubishi Evo 340 (dark grey) take off from the bottom of Holyrood Road up to the traffic lights at the top. You can see the lights from 3/4 of the way down the road. The driver will have also seen there was a queue of around 10 cars (minimum) and that the lights were on red. Even if they hadn't been on red, there is kink in the road and it's a heavily walked section of Edinburgh with a 30mph limit. On each side of this road are footpaths, hotels, and a section of Edinburgh University. The EVO floored it. I mean he really floored it. I would anticipate he was doing at LEAST 80 mph if not more - in a 30mph limit. In fact coming to think of it as this took around 10 seconds he must have been doing close to a ton. He then slammed his brakes on so hard that you could hear the little intermittment screaches from the ABS and whatever other systems are on EVO's. Well, you total and utter fecking lunatic, I got your number and I've just fecking reported you. You silly, silly, silly man. Total and utter lunacy like I have never seen before. Incidentally....there were men, women and children walking up and down the paths on either side of the road too on a hot sunny day in Edinburgh. Unfair to the rest of them, maybe. No wonder they get the name they do though.
Wallachie
It's not just owners of Evo's who drive like that, it's a bit unfair to 'stereotype' all Evo drivers as feckwits!! Quite right in reporting him though! I know where you're talking about and it's not the kind of place to be speeding.
NewNiceMrMe
Of course it's unfair. However, I'm not exaggerating when I say that most times when I see one it's been driven like they're trying to impersonate Tommi Makkinen. On open roads, country roads, whatever...I don't care - but in a 30mph zone on one of the busiest roads in a major City? Lunacy, absolute lunacy. NewNiceMrMe
To all the reasoned, sensible and fair Evo drivers out there - I apologise. However, do yourselves a favour and tell w*nkers like this guy that they're doing you an injustice if ever you meet up with them.
patently
I know what you mean. Last year, there were a few "other" cars at a Porsche Club trackday. Generally, their days are very carefully run with the intention of not scaring the pants off newbies - no overtaking in the bends, drive respectfully etc etc. The M3 CSL and the F360 fitted in with the rest of the crowd and we all got on just fine. Except for the Mitsubishi Evo, with whom I very nearly had a shouting match in the pit lane, along the lines of "I might be ******* slow but if you overtake me on the inside while I'm turning in to a bend on the line again then don't be ******* surprised if I write your ******* car off and present you with the bill for mine...." I decided to calm down though, and stay in when he was out. Discretion the better part, etc. Still wish I hadn't, though.
Dodge
Whilst you're on the subject, I just came across this on PH - Evo Over & Out Thought it my ease your tention seeing one killed! Just when you thought you were the nuts in your new Evo, bullied everyone out of the way on the track... Just desrves... Parting words, "should we push it onto the Highway and call the AA"

patently
Now that really will need some T-cut.... Seriously, car control generally excellent but needs to be more consistent , etiquette distinctly requires attention.
Dodge
Aye, much respect for drifting skills (but it is an EVO afterall!) but what frickin bad etiquette on the track... I'd of made sure he was black flagged... I bet there were more than one person grining under their helmets...
CarMad
Yeah very cocky in his driving though.. I bet others enjoyed him doing that.
Scotty
Oh dear MrMe's generalising again. The type of car you drive makes you a certain type of person. So I guess EVERY BMW driver is a twat coz I saw one this morning do something stupid. Every Audi driver is boring and can't drive. Every Scooby driver is a smash & grab raider. etc etc I really would have thought that seeing the mix of cars and people on this forum, we were all beyond this. Parting words, "should we push it onto the Highway and call the AA" [/ QUOTE ] this is what's bothered me about taking the car to track days - I have no track etiquette experience and wouldn't know what to do if someone drove up behind at that pace. the tail-out slidy corner action was fine, but the rest of his car control looked poor - ultimately shown up by the end result. Might have been better for him to take the side-swipe instead of doing whatever jerky final reaction caused the fatal roll.
P_G
Getting a bit sensitive about this aren't we ScoTTy? He has a point because the car has the capability to do so, however that is the same with a lot of performance cars. I would agree to an extent that I see more Evo and particulalry in our area, modified Scooby drivers doing unbelieveably stupid maneouvres than I do Porsches, Aston's etc. There are however Evo and Scooby drivers that I have seen that drive normally like anyone else so what do you do, not comment at all? Bast part was that he reported him, which I believe not enough people do and that's why so many people get away with such lunacy.

Generally, it's the faster driver's problem, but you would probably be asked to watch out for followers, move to the left (or right) and indicate to show you noticed them. Take most CTR drivers for example, 80% of the time they're acting like muppets and you can bet they're under 24 years old too! It's getting that way with S3's too, the older they get, the more affordable they are to youths! Bet you rarely see RS4 or RS6 owners driving like fools, do see a fair few Porsches though, generally the Boxster variety.
Scotty
[ QUOTE ] Getting a bit sensitive about this aren't we ScoTTy? [/ QUOTE ] I don't think so. On Sunday at the Piston Head's meet there was a pillock in an old Rover (416 or something) just going round in circles squealing tyres etc. Should we generalise that all owners do this? Of course not. I'm simply highlighting that generalising people based on the car they drive is as ridiculous as generalising people on where the come from or what colour there skin is. Perhaps it's because I was a TT owner and you get tarnished with the hairdresser/polishers reputation that many are perceived as. It's bollox. Then many people said I was a poseur. When I moved into a boring looking S4 suddenly I'm not. I haven't actually changed at all. It's just peoples perceptions. I was surprised/disappointed to see MrMe posting this on a forum where we have all sorts hence my post. I felt it wasn't in keeping with the Joy and open welcoming arms that is promoted on this site. No more. No less.
garcon magnifique
On the other hand, MrMe did open the post by admitting his prejudice - perhaps that is more honest than someone who pretends they aren't prejudiced against certain cars/people? martin275
I agree that it’s a drivers age / affordability thing, as we get older we generally calm down a little. Mind you, reading about MrMe’s exploits behind the wheel at the weekend, that isn’t always the case! There also seems to be a lot of strange ‘rivalry’ on the road, where a normally sensible driver gets the red mist when confronted by a certain car. Mind you, I must confess to being a little guilty of that myself from time to time. Oh and well done for reporting the guy, he should have his licence taken off him. I just hope the police actually do something.

To few people take the time and effort to do so.
collease
The problem is that if every time you see a certain type of car being driven stupidly it sticks in you mind more than if it is driven perfectly. Therfor if you see another one doing the same thing you remember that to. It then means every time you see a car being driven badly you automatically remember the other idiots driving the same car. Its not stereotyping in a way its just how our brians work. The more you see the more likely you are to say that every one you see driving that car are bad drivers.
