billy2shots
I know most non-believers are bored with the speculation, but for those of us who know its coming i thought i would share this. When i test drove the R32 the other day, i asked about the R36 and the dealer said it WILL happen, but on the mk6 golf. He said it was planned for 2008/2009 and the 3.6 powerplant is Porsche sourced. Then tonight i was looking at some car supermarkets and their is a small piece on one site about the R36. It also had a place to sign-up for updates on the beast. [/ QUOTE ] A car supermarket wouldn't know any more than us... I agree as there is an engine there is a great possibility. However I still feel an even bigger heavier engine over the front wheels is the last thing the Golf needs...

[/ QUOTE ] quite right - after nearly 10k miles covered in a MkV R32 I really feel that the suspension needs reining in a bit (FSD's +rear ARB are on the way soon hopefully) what it needs is the TSi treatment - although in VW driver magazine one of the Wolfsburg VW techs was saying it will not work properly with the 2.0 FSI or the 3.2 V6. Imagine how good a 3.2 twincharger would be ......

billy2shots
Every time there is a tiny bit of news or a blured picture in one of the weeklys of a disguised golf it gets the old ticker going. So when a dealer says he is 100% certain (for what thats worth)i dont even think about weight, handling etc.

Smaller engine, do your best to get it as far behind the font axle as possible (boxer style?) and then Tsi the feck out of it!

Neimad
There's been lots of rumours that the R36 - if it ever does materialise - won't be a Golf... Whether they're just rumours, well only VW can say for sure but this is enough to make you wonder.
billy2shots
Thought there is already a passat 3.6 in the states.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes very true, and imagine considering that 3.2 lump is old now, that the new one will be lighter... However it will be bigger, and that means more of it will be over the front axle, which can only be a bad thing from a handling point of view... rs32
VW could probably do with exploring all-alloy/magnesium blocks for their new big engines - or might this be impossible with a narrow-angle V6 ?

DHA
When I was testing a GTI the dealer mentioned the R36 due in a few years. Reckon there is more chance of one of these than an RS3.
Maxyboy
i could see the 3.6 in the mk6... but not the mk5 is there not a chance you think the r36 could be corrado or scirroco based? i know they have mooted the 1.4 turbo/supercharged engine for one of these already
TP27
My information is that the R36 will feature in Passat Coupe or Scirocco guise. I suspect that the Geneva Motorshow next Spring may be a launch pad for some sort of product launch.

bigface
before i ordered my 32 i asked bout the 36 and the dealer said he would be very supprised if it was released here and thought it was aimed for the usa market, although in saying this, he did tell me i couldnt get an ipod connector for the car but now 8weeks later i can!lied about when id get the car and seemed disinterested in selling it to me! well back to the point dealers are probably full of **** and dont know! I've said it before - the engine is out there and much acclaimed in the States. There is no way it won't find its way into other group products. There is huge VAG precendent for this - and it amazes me that so many people remain convinced it won't happen!
