Maxyboy
had a drive of the new gti yesterday and i have to say i was very impressed.....apart from being in need of a bigger set of wheels the performance was very impressive.....and i am sure a chip would take it to around the 190/200 bhp mark seeing as its the 1.8t that has been kicking around for a while.....i had this engine in my old mk4 and found the exhaust note poor, but vw havnt made the same mistake with the polo as it sounded quite nice....i am sure in white with the 18 inch monzas...if thats possible....it would look the business.....but at the price ....would a second hand golf gti be a better proposition for the other half.... anyway.....nice wee motor
shao_khan
Wait for the Polo Cup version - 180bhp - bigger wheels - might make it a better prespect?
Maxyboy
might take it more into golf territory too though ...

Calm Chris
Looks good, but if you didn't mind the badge, the Seat Ibiza Cupra is 180 bhp, light and available for £12k for a nearly new with 3000 miles on it. A new one at dealers can be got for about £14k if your up to haggling. What's the suggested damage for the Polo Cup ? £17-£18k and for that there's heaps of alternatives, The new Clio sport will no doubt launch a Cup version and that will be the one to beat. The Polo will be the best brand image to buy, so residuals will be solid- but as always, it will be lardy and will need some AMD work to move things to where they should be, the day it roles out of the factory. Maxyboy
[/ QUOTE ] Yes but mk-iv Golf territory only ! [/ QUOTE ] not sure about that.......by the time you spec a polo cup say...you are then firmly into the second hand gti playground

TP27
Maxy, sorry, I meant from a tuned 1.8T engine point of view, more akin to the lump of the mk-iv Anni GTi.

DaddyDub
Yeah thats right, but are they gonna bring it out over here? We all know the UK got stiffed on the Beetle RSI and cup Cars.
shao_khan
Yep - We got stiffed because of a lack of enthusiasm at the time from VW uk senior management to take a risk on some slightly 'out there' cars. I just hope they realise that people want to buy these type of cars in the UK.
DaddyDub
Ive just got off the phone to my Bud and he say's "VW UK have no current plans to offer this vehicle". WTF? I dont know if this is VW being tight lipped and then bringing it out but as an official response, this is a bloody joke!

shao_khan
VW have some funny ideas - look how successful the MK4 R32 was, but they dont seem to comprehend the desire for small hot hatches - or are they just worried that they'll get a slating because they cant make somethign as good with the VW badge as the Fabia VRs or Ibiza Cupra? Mouse
VW need to get their finger out and release it in the UK. This is what the people want
TP27
[ QUOTE ] VW need to get their finger out and release it in the UK. This is what the people want [/ QUOTE ] I went to order a Polo GTi Cup and was told categorically that this model will not be sold in the UK at all. I was told that the all new Polo would be launched in 2008 but that's now what I wanted to hear !!

SteNova
we all know that they should bring out a polo 220 cup with a tuned 1.8t engine, rs4 brakes etc etc, all it would need is a good review on topgear and they would be onto a winner
