tonymontana
hi folks. just converted to the audi world from the dreaded french side. i have just purchased a 95 a6 2.0e. not magnificent but we all gotta start somewhere. heres the thing. seems to be an intermittent immobiliser problem. sometimes it starts and sometimes it dont. took it to a vw garage and he said it was the coil reader round the ignition barrel. changed it, didnt help. once again the car has let me down and ive had to take a day off work. is there any way to bypass the immobiliser? dont really want to replace the igniton barrel and key etc. lookin for a cheap way out. any help would be greatly appreciated. great site by the way. tonymontana
yeah. tried both keys. dosent seem to make a differnce. had the car on vagcom and it says 00128 immobiliser speradic fault and 00176 key speradic fault. does this mean i replace them both or do i replace the key? also comes up 00522 coolant temperature sender implausible signal speradic fault. would this stop it from starting also? Edd_W
The coolant sensor is the one with a multi connector on it. I cannot tell you where it located because I only know the V6's not the 4's. It is either a screw-in type with a black top or a push in type with a green or black top I think. If it is the push-in type it will be helpd in with a plastic horseshoe type clip - get a new one of these as well because it will break as it is removed. For the imobiliser, I would get a new induction loop for the lock bareel. This must have developed a fault if it the same with both keys. It maybe possible to re-programme the keys - do a search on www.audiworld.com on the C4 A6 forum. They only had immobilisers in the US from about 96 on but there will be loads of info.
