NewNiceMrMe
When I were a lad..... ...I almost bought a white Swift GTi! They were cracking cars! Always liked the look of them too!
Gren
New ones look quite funky to me. Not sure what they're really like but a 'GTi' type model could be fun.
Booster
Swift is a decent looking car. Bit of a Mini "clone". My MIL to be is looking at changing her 2000 Polo for either one of these or a Mitsubishi Colt. There are some cracking deals to be had on the Colt and its got quite a funky interior. Thorburn
Didn't a Suzuki win the Junior WRC a year or two back? Quite funky looking cars the the old Swift GTi was supposed to be PDQ.
Problem_Child
Isn't the Swift a Yaris underneath? It was Car Magazine's COTY last year so it can't be too shabby. But I say this to everyone contemplating a brand new car- why buy new? For the cost of one of them you could get something much nicer thats 6-12 months old. How about this , this or this? robin09
The Diesel engine is indeed a Fiat, used in the current Panda. The 1.3 and 1.5 petrol engines are Suzuki's own and the car is put together in Hungary.
NewNiceMrMe
[ QUOTE ] the old Swift GTi was supposed to be PDQ. [/ QUOTE ] It was, in it's day. It gave a lot of much more expensive machinery a run for it's money. It was a 1.3 litre 16v engine produced only 100 bhp and 83 lbs of torque. It's 0-60 was 8.3 and it did a 1/4 mile in just over 16 seconds - it was a very light car and that compensated for it's lack of engine capacity. A lot of them have fallen prey to Chavs though. [/ QUOTE ] Indeed, the GTTi, like the M3, is one of the few cars that can claim to be in the 100bhp+ per litre club.

NewNiceMrMe
Aye, it was a 3-pot, the Charade that is. There is still an owners club and they have quite a following too. I know a guy, well, by association, who has a black one and he's fanatical about it. In fact I think he runs the owners club now.
Problem_Child
[ QUOTE ] Turbo Charged Smart Car pehaps? [/ QUOTE ] Too dear! A friend of mine looked at one but ended up buying a 1.6 MX-5 because it cost less to buy and insure... The Kimber version on the other hand might be worth considering. Once they decide on a name for it.
