18" Winter Wheels

Firstly, hello - and I hope you dont bite

Secondly, you can mock my future purchase of a Z4, if and only if I can bite back.

Thirdly, there has been a complex saga of which wheels the car will come with. Finally it is coming with the wrong wheels - which are in fact the original wheels (18" 5spoke split rims).

My question is - does anyone run 18" rims (on any car) with winter tyres????

I need to know as the dealer is offering a cheap set of winter wheels as compensation. I dont know whether to take them OR put winter tyres on the 18" rims and buy 19" for summer.

Thanks.

Welcome to Tyresmoke.

I'd hope for compensation by cheap you mean free or nearly free?

I'd take the winter wheels and keep the 18's pristine, split rims are a real sob to get fixed if they get damaged as you are supposed to split them which is costly. So I personally would be tempted to take the offer and get a cheap set for winter.

If Necessary get some 19s at a later date and flog the 18s, but I wouldnt let them get ruined in the winter.

If by winter tyres you mean snow tyres I have always been advised to reduce the wheel diameter as snow tyres are normally higher profile and narrower. My S4 runs 225/45/17 in winter and 245/40/18 in summer. I think it could be quite difficult to get 18 winter tyres but I could be wrong smirk.gif

You are all wrong

The dealer has located and is happy to supply 18" wheels with Bridgstone Blizzard tyres (in the correct size).

My guessing is that winter tyres are getting bigger as demand increases.

I am not intending to be out when the conditions get too tricky - except for a quick trip to the icey carpark for donuts!!!

I would prefer to have smaller wheels than 18" in really bad conditions beerchug.gif

Are you the same dodgyken from the VOC Forums?
