Avus_Bub
You can never win with the likes of him and his 'daddy'. I can see his point to a degree though, it's the cheap race can and anodised foot peg mob again....................... BUB

encee
IMO, he has a narrow-minded view on things. Okay, he enjoys the tranquility of the countryside, etc, don`t we all, at some point ? But, he obviously feels that enjoyment of the area is for tranquility-seekers only, and because motorcycles don`t fit into this category, they should be banned. I wonder how the fishermen on Lake Ulleswater feel, when he comes by on his boat, "drifting on the breeze".........................

RacingRed
Wasn't there a fuss about a Swedish proposal to ban bikes in the interests of lowering road death figures? I'm sure I heard that it did the rounds among European police authorities a while back.

I'm sure my Leo system sounds just as fantastic as your Termi's too Mind you, your foot pegs don't look very purple to me? Sorry if you took offence, but it's a term I use to describe a motorcyclist who's the equivalent of a plastic body kitted max power hot hatch driving numpty. I ride fast on the road and my bike is LOUD, but I know when and where to use my bike to it's potential. I also know the meaning of courtesy and show it to other road users accordingly.I consider myself to be a good ambassador for mature sport bike riders. I can't tell you the last time I drew any attention from the boys in blue (and yes I've got a small 'plate and wear an Iridium visor). My point is you can take the pi**, it's just knowing where and when and hopefully you will keep the likes of Bumstrum and his cronies semi happy........................ Lee_
Sound advice, I've managed to not ever get pulled by the police after similar advice was dealt to me by my CBT instructor. It's seen me o.k for coming upto 3 years now. Also, that bike is stunning Avus_Bub, we should ask for a 'kneesliders' section in the gallery for our pictures. DukeDesmo
[ QUOTE ] You and me both Desmo................. [/ QUOTE ] Hey BUB no offence taken and that's a nice bike you've got there & I'm sure it sounds like music to my ears. BTW my pegs are anodised silver but as you say it's being considerate that helps, I must admit that over the years I've :ahem: attracted some Bib attention on bikes but never had any comments about cans/plates/visors (and I've got'em all) but then I think most traffic cops are reasonably sensible, although the latest breed seem to have been indoctrinated by the 'speed kills' brigade (especially the meatslapper that sent me to court a couple of years ago for what others would have just had 'words') But now I've a a special message for him and his type to read so that I don't need to stop to talk to them any more. Jon
Those bikes are all fantastic I love sports bikes but am to big to ride the vast majority. I took a Busa out and scared myself big time. I know it's different strokes for different folks but i'm planning to order my new bike tomorrow, a Harley Davidson FXDB Dyna Street Bob. 1584cc and just what i want, however it's won't leave the showroom without the Vance and Hines seriously loud pipes I know there is generally a big divide between HD and sports bike riders but my take is that we all have a passion and the balls to ride them Hopefully you will all still speak to me Jon. Lee_
I've posted a question asking for a kneesliders gallery, we'll see how it goes. I still accept Harley's as bikes, a friend of mine has an S&S engined animal of a Harley that leaves my 400 for dead in a straight line. The noise they make is awesome, for that alone they get the thumbs up from me.
DukeDesmo
Hey, a biker is a biker, I nod to all bikers; sportbikes, cruisers, ratbikes, scooters, bike cops, the lot. I'm not one of those guys, cheers for still speaking to me Jon. [/ QUOTE ] Most 'ratbikers' don't nod back probably because they're too 'ard and not many bike cops do either (maybe they don't like my black visor). Reminds me of this humorous article I found on a US website; "To Wave or Not to Wave By Shalom Auslander I love motorcycles, and I love riding. Like many of you, what first drew me to bikes was not just the experience of riding, but the feeling that I'd become part of a special community--a brotherhood, really. Nothing calms me more than a long ride down the interstate, waving to the members of my beloved clan. Except when I pass Harley guys. I hate Harley guys. Hate, hate, hate. When they pass me on the highway, you know what I do? I don't wave. With their little tassle handlebars and the studded luggage and the half-helmets--God, they drive me crazy. You know who else I hate? BMW guys. Oh, I do hate those guys. I don't wave at them, either. They think they're so great, sitting all upright, with their 180-degree German engines. God, I hate them. They're almost as bad as those old bastards on their touring motorcycles. You know what I call those bikes? "Two-wheeled couches!" Get it? Because they're so big. They drive around like they've got all day. Appreciate the scenery somewhere else, Grampa, and while you're at it, I'm not waving to you. Ducati guys--I don't wave at them either. Why don't they spend a little more money on their bikes? "You can have it in any color you want, as long as it's red." Aren't you cool! Like they even know what a desmo-whatever engine is, anyway. Try finding the battery, you Italian-wannabe racers! I never, ever wave at those guys. Suzuki guys aren't much better, which is why I never wave at them, either. They always have those stupid helmets sitting on top of their stupid heads, and God forbid they should wear any safety gear. They make me so mad. Sometimes they'll speed by and look over at me and you know what I do? I don't wave. I just keep on going. Please, don't get me started on Kawasaki guys. Ninjas? What are you, twelve years old? Team Green my ass. I never wave at Kawasaki guys. I ride a Honda, and I'll only wave at Honda guys, but even then, I'll never wave at a guy in full leathers. Never, never, never. Yeah, like you're going to get your knee down on the New York Thruway. Nice crotch, by the way. Guys in full leathers will never get a wave from me, and by the way, neither will the guys in two-piece leathers. And I'll tell you who else I'm not waving at -- those guys with the helmets with the loud paintjobs. Four pounds of paint on a two pound helmet âEUR" like I'm going to wave back to that! I'll also never wave at someone with a mirrored visor. Or helmet stickers. Or racing gloves. Or hiking boots. To me, motorcycling is a like a family, a close-knit brotherhood of people who ride Hondas, wear jeans and a leather jacket (not Vanson) with regular gloves and a solid-color helmet with a clear visor, no stickers, no racing gloves and regular boots (not Timberlands). And isn't that what really makes riding so special?"

It was like they went out of their way to get in the way, if you konw what I mean. Naturally I gave a courtesy wave as I eventually overtook at warp 10.......... Lee_
Sorry to drag this topic back up, but it appears that Mr Wolfendale's comments haven't been taken lightly. Theres been a letter sent from the BMF (taken from another forum) [ QUOTE ] Kelvin Dent Clerk and Monitoring Officer, North Wales Police Authority, Glan-y-Don, Colwyn Bay. LL29 8A Dear Sir, Re: Use of Web Logs ‘blogs’ by Senior Officers of North Wales Police It has been brought to my attention that the Deputy Chief Constable of the North Wales Police, Mr Clive Wolfendale’s, web log for the weekend of August 5th contained a number of remarks about the use of motorcycles in National Parks. Deputy Chief Constable Wolfendale's comments are as follows:- ’The only detriment to this earthly paradise [the Lake District] was the inescapable whine of motorcycles on the A592. Revving in frustration at the snaking traffic and inconvenient speed limits, the machines seemed wholly incompatible with the otherwise pristine scene. I reflected on the statutory duty of Park Authorities to conserve and enhance natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage” and was reminded that Snowdonia suffers the same high pitched affliction. Most riders are responsible and courteous. North Wales Police has worked hard with partner organisations to cut the amount of motorcycle carnage on our routes. This does not begin to address, however, the environmental imposition. Only on the highest peaks (I just about managed it on a misty Helvellyn) is it possible to escape the grand prix ambience. In Germany, some states have banned the use of motorcycles at the weekend in certain areas. Is it now time to banish motorcycles completely from our National Parks?’ Mr Wolfendale's comments give the British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF) cause for concern: 1) Is it appropriate that North Wales Police budget is used to fund the publication of Senior Officers' personal opinions via a web log on the North Wales Police website? 2) The Police Code of Conduct states that ‘Police officers have a particular responsibility to act with fairness and impartiality in all their dealings with the public and their colleagues.’ It appears to the BMF that DCC Wolfendale is ignoring this guideline; his comments on motorcycles in National Parks appear to be far from impartial. Would you agree? 3) I thoroughly agree with DCC Wolfendale's comment that ‘most riders are responsible and courteous’ but am concerned that he saw fit to conclude by saying ‘Is it now time to banish motorcycles completely from our National Parks?'. DCC Wolfendale ignores the fact that the noise nuisance is caused primarily by machines fitted with non-standard exhaust systems, not legal for road use. It is not reasonable to ban the majority of responsible and courteous riders from National Parks on account of the few who are not. A comment that he regretted not having sufficient resources to enforce the existing law well enough to reduce the nuisance would surely have been more appropriate and welcomed by the BMF. We await your response with interest. [/ QUOTE ] Theres a story about this here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/north_east/4790131.stm Reckon he'll get the boot because of this? simonb
I've only ever been to North Wales on my bike and i left home at about 10am, arrived back about 4pm, so was in north wales between 10.45 ish and 3.30pm ish and got stopped 9 times!! All for 'spot checks'!! The bike was kosher and my riding was pretty kosher too - all just 'where you going? where you been? ride safely etc'.
