fortunate or unfortunate ?

my son has recently purchased the VW Golf (25th)Anniversary Diesel Model and is now faced with a couple of expensive jobs - that's according to the local VW garage

i'm trying to help him by suggesting that he finds out from other 'users' whether the outstanding jobs and charges sound like value for money they are:-

rocker cover gasket and tandem pump seals

£250 +

both cooling fans stuck on one speed - require renewal - £400 +

can any of you guys help me with this one - would be great to help my son

cheers

roger

Thanks for the reply

The cooling fans are still working although only on speed 2 - I would have thought that switching was the problem although the VW garage wants to replace both fans

Should have said the rocker cover gasket - comment from the garage simply says "rocker cover and tandem pump seals leaking"

The rocker cover seals will all be labour. I would check your local garage's hourly rate and compare to others in the area.

The gaskets don't tend to leak. When they are replaced I would recommend genuine VW parts (silicone IIRC) rather than the cheaper ones (probably fibre).

Good luck. 150 PD engine is a corker.
