Hows BT's broadband fair?

Ive been with Pipex from the point BB was available, and been wanting to upgrade away from the expensive 2mb solo service i am on, to something 8mb, but without contract, or hassels of "ceasing" isp provision to move house. as Its quite possible, ill be moving house certainly within 12 months, maybe within 6.

Looking round the BT.com site, they will move BB to a new house no problem, so that negates the problem of a 12 month contract, and makes things simple.

Means i could swap to BT BB now, and move it when i move house, saving money in the process from my £34 current cost.

How does BT compete with usage, how strict are the caps? is anything throttled? P2P? streaming etcs?

I'll be popping over to ADSLGuide, but im sure more than a few of you here can fill in some gaps. 169144-ok.gif

On BT Broadband through work.. get it for free.

I don't have any usage limits so can't say anything about them. As for everything else, the speed is great, its never been down and all in all I'd recommmend them. Been with them / using them for 3/4 years now I think. 169144-ok.gif

I've been with BT for years.

The only problem i ever get, is occasional line problems, and then your f&*ked, as you end up with some dodgy indian call centre, where they just have a script to read, rather than listening to what your saying. BT Tech support is rubbish smashfreakB.gif

Ditto - that's my experience also. I've been with them for 3 years and in the early days you used to get good support. Very few problems with the line though.

I'm on BT and have been since day one of BB.

No-problems at all and the line has never gone down, I will say however that their tech-support is a bit pants....

....that's unless you have the old dial-up tech number. sekret.gif

Have never really needed them as I'm pretty PC familiar, just forgotten passwords etc.

I know alot of people with Bulldog and as far as I can see, steer well clear!!! dung.gif

I'm with BT Broadband. Sometimes I lose the connection but I think thats my lap top not BT. Online support is dubious to say the least - interesting responses to questions you didn't ask. Telephone support is useless, may as well call the talking clock. Maybe its enough to say I survive well enough without needing it! 169144-ok.gif

Hi all

i must admit i work for BT and have had there broadband for over 5 years and had no real problems.

The usage at the moment is the around 40gig but last month i was a naughty boy and used just over 80gig and got a email quoting the fair usgage policy.

It dosn`t matter what service provider you go with because its still going over the BT line, but i will say over the years i`ve seen alot of changes in broadband, new providers appearing from nowhere and quoting cheaper packages, no with this you get what you pay for, thats all i will say for that. I know i work for BT but they do seem to give the best BB service at the moment.

We've gone for the 8mb Unlimited option, free homehub and the rest. You won't get the homehub to begin with though - cos' they're out of stock! They send you a cordless digital with answering machine instead (and its very good actually).

Beware though - check my other thread about connection speed.

8mb connection....forecast up to 3.5mb actual....only getting 2.8mb in reality. Not happy.

Ive got Pipex 2Mb, so usually sita at 1.8Mb including losses etc.

so change to max, even at its worse should be better than 2mb, and hopefully cheaper.

Im still deciding if its worth the bother to change before moving, amnd then port it to new house, or just wait and get whatever isp on my me line.

I've had BT broadband for several years - had a few letters that mention a capacity limit in passing but never been flagged for it even when I had a lodger who spent all day DLing as well as me so I just think they have this in the contract in case of massive use.

I am on Option 1 but wonder about getting something cheaper - has been dead reliable though
