Has anyone here read this months evo yet??

http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/202473/this_months_evo.html

Amazing (and huge) article on the Veyron against it's closest "competitors", Enzo, Carrera GT and Zonda (S not F). But no Koniggsegg frown.gif

Basically apart from the slight complaint that the Veyron has no soul, it seems to utterly anihilate the other hypercars in EVERY area not just straight line speed, but kills them in the corners as well!!

They compared it to a Nissan 350Z being tested against a 911 Turbo. Such is the gulf shocked.gif

Now unlike Wopps, I am a fan of the shape, mainly because it is so different. Now I think it really is the Ultimate supercar because it is proving not to be as they describe it "an expensive dragster" but just totally unbeatable.

I hope Top Gear manage to get their hands on one for the new series - I think there might be a new car at the top of the TG Lap leaderboard. (A 2 tonne one at that notworthy.gif)

I enjoyed that article, although will admit I was surprised the Veyron obliterated the opposition as easily as it did. It certainly cemented its place as a hyper-car.

The superlatives used in the magazine sounded as if they weren't enough to describe the cars acceleration.

Out of all the cars they tested, I'm not sure which I'd have picked. The Enzo - possibly. I like the Carrera GT but it doesn't look special enough when compared to the others, and for me thats part of the attraction and requirement of the term 'supercar'.

Mind you, if they'd have tested a Zonda F or a Koenigsegg CCX then I'd have taken either of those above the ones on test. Indeed, the only car that could really given the Veyron a test is the CCX (in terms of production cars) - and even then I think the figures say the Veyron would still triumph.

One last point - the rest of this months magazine was utter rubbish in my opinion and I'm cancelling my subscription.

Its the most expensive new car you can buy. People want want to show how much money they have. But that has noting to do with how good or bad the car is, they want the image that comes with it.

I personally think its a poorly engineered car that cost far to much to develop, there is nothing clever about that.

Sounds like they used so many superlatives in the article they couldn't think of any others for the rest of the magazine and therefore didn't bother.

I'll still go and buy it today. Better than Auto Express which I will be cancelling at the end of this subscription period.

I'm not sure I agree with that. If you're buying a Carrera GT, Enzo, Zonda, Veyron...money really isn't a factor with those types of cars anyway. No matter which you buy you're telling people you're a millionnaire in 99% of cases, and pretty much a multi-millionnaire.

If you think about it, with the price of an Enzo versus the price of a Veyron, well if you could afford an Enzo then you're not exactly going to struggle to buy a Veyron either, are you?

Besides, I'm a firm believer that cars aren't something people pick to show how rich they are once they get to a certain level. They go for yachts and aircraft instead.

I think the fact that Bailey and Farbourd are digging deep to splash out the cash says something about the Veyron. After all they only own a Enzo and GT between them....!

[/ QUOTE ]

Exactly.

The Veyron is an engineer's supercar. Love it or hate it, VW set out to make the fastest supercar, en route, they made arguably the (techically) best supercar as well. Maybe it doesn't have the flair of the Porsche, or the soul of the Enzo, but its a masterpiece of modern engineering notworthy.gif

A poorly engineered car!!!??? EEK2.GIF

I've heard the Veyron called a lot of things, but I'd have thought "poorly engineered" could hardly be one of them.

It's engineered up the ying yang! I can't think of a more engineered car..! blush.gif

I think that people are forgettig that due to speed limits and various other taxes and restrictions on the roads and pollution etc, this may and probably will be the last attempt at a super hyper car powered by petrol. This is the ultimate incarnation of the motorcar powered by an internal combustion engine and, in my opinion, will remain so. Others will try with more power and lighter weight but the Veyron managed it all. Power, handling, luxury. The ultimate motorcar.

I'm inclined to agree - but then nobody dreamt that the Macca F1 would ever be usurped ECLIPSe.gif

Nope sorry its not good at all.

An engineer creates something at a cost and with the most efficiency. The McLaren F1 is a fine example of things being very well engineered. Its light, uses the finest components and came on just about on budget and to the right timeframes.

The Veryon was stupidly late and then got delayed again. Its cost a huge amount of money to develop, there is nothing clever about that, in fact most engineers would be ashamed that it cost what it did.

Is anything very clever about it, not really. A few things have been scaled up, many of the heat extraction problems were actually solved on the Continetal GT after it was melting metal in low heat countries.

Had this discussion before in a previous thread and I'm certainly not alone in having the same view. shocked.gif

The McLaren was the ulimate lightweight supercar but the Veyron is the ultimate motorcar. The McLaren is a great car but lack creature comforts which are a requirement for the megarich. I'm not sure that a billionare would be happy getting out of a McLaren in a Tuxedo and falling about everywhere. Imagine if ballgowns were involved. The Veyron is something that would be at home at the track and at a posh soiree.
