MarkBarrett
Hi All I'm looking for some help to diagnose a problem. I have a 2004 B6 A4 Cabriolet 3.0 Quattro. It is fitted with Audi OEM RNS/E, TV Tuner and Phone Kit from the factory. My problem is that I have lost FM signal and also Satellite signal for the SatNav. These both happened at the same time - so crudely I deduces the problem is linked. My thinking so far is that as both these are boot mounted aerials that are wired through the loom on the left hand side of the bootlid, and they both "failed" at the same time, then it is probably a wiring problem rather than a component failure. The TV still works fine and the aerial for that is wired through the same box as the FM signal, so that suggests this unit hasn't failed. The phone and central locking also still work fine which also share the same loom. So I guess I am looking at a broken wire or two or maybe just a simple loose connection. My question is this - where are the connector blocks for this wiring loom located? Is it a run of cable from the boot all the way to the headunit without any breaks, or are there bulkhead connectors? Also are there any other devices between the aerials themselves and the headunits? i.e. control units or amplifiers of any kind? If there are other devices in the path then it maybe that these have failed or have a loose connection. Any advice from RNS/E installation gurus would be greatly appreciated - I am happy to fix the problem myself, but would appreciate some ideas on where to look to save me stripping the car!!!!!! Cheers Mark
craigyb
That does seem very strange that you lost both at the same time. They are seperate modules. R50 is the GPS antenna and then you have 2 FM/TV antennas R108 & R109. R108 feeds the HF (FM) & ZF (AM)signals to the RNS-E. Have you checked MW/LW reception? All the power for these devices comes from the RNS-E which is the only common component. The TV tuner powers the 4 TV antennas, which why maybe your TV is still working. I suspect the RNS-E based on the above, but I could be wrong.
MarkBarrett
Hi Craig Thanks for the quick response - I did check MW and still seem to be getting a signal on Radio 5 Live - it's pretty crappy, but to be honest that's normal where we live anyway!!! Sounds like it might be a case of pulling the RNS-E out and checking for loose connections, otherwise we may be looking at component failure. Are there any in-line connectors in the loom between RNS-E and aerials that may have worked loose? Cheers Mark
craigyb
That I cannot answer, as I would gues each module has its own cable run and individual connectors. But what and where I cannot say. The RNS-E has 3 connectors, 1 blue GPS connector and a white dual ZF/HF connector. They do not come lose easily. Craig
