goodboy1451
Just had my Carbonio CAI fitted on my R32. The kit was bought from Awesome GTi for 165pounds, happend to be the last of 15 units which means that I received it within a week. Sarah from Awesome extended her usual excellent service. Pondered for abit whether should I fit the kit myself and decided not to as it looks pretty challenging. Booked a slot at the Phirm in Farnham this morning. Met Tim, Sarah and Kevin and they extended their usual warm and friendly service. Tim got down to work on fitting the kit and after a while realised that the factory fitting instruction doesn't seem to sit so well within the engine compartment confines. After some discussions, Tim recommended to fit the carbon fibre pipe the other way around and presto, it looks simply fantastic. The pipe now follows the contour of the engine bay better and there seems to be less stress on the MAF sensor bit. I will try to snap a picture and post it within the next 1-2 days. The installation involves removing the following: - remove the stock OEM airbox - (temporary remove) the car battery, housing and battery tray - (temporary remove) the flap covering the left side headlamps - remove the plastic bits that channel air to the stock air box - relocate some wires - open the wheel arch flap to insert the air filter The whole operation took 1.5 hours and the work and service quality that Tim rendered is simply excellent. Really happy and glad that I didn't attempted it on my own. With the cold air intake + milltek resonated cat-back + Revo stage 1 now on, the throttle response is noticeably improved. When the accelerator is blipped, you can really hear the engine roars. I am developing a strange habit of winding down the window when I drive now. goodboy1451
Khutula, my looks quite similar but if you compare my picture with yours, there are some differences. The pipe is mounted the reverse way. What do you think ?? Hi Redrobin, its a mk4.
khutula
They certainly look similar - except that I can't see the logo on yours.
rincewind
Is it worth fitting a CAI without any other mods? Or does it just enhance any other work you get done?
Mook
Depends on who you talk to and which cold air intake you fit. Smudge used to run one with a Milltek and got better performance with it fitted. You would probably expect to gain between 2 and 3 bhp on a standard car. Running it on a 300+ bhp modified R32 will give you up to 8 bhp and 8 lb/ft of torque, although this is based on the EIP Tuning cold air intake, which is supposed to allow more air through than the Carbonio as it uses a K&N race filter. RedRobin
[ QUOTE ] Is it worth fitting a CAI without any other mods? Or does it just enhance any other work you get done? [/ QUOTE ] ....Usually not. It's the fundamentals of the internal combustion engine - Belch Air In & Fart Gases Out results in improved breathing and efficiency. So it makes sense to also have an efficient performance exhaust if you're going to install an aftermarket CAI.
