Insurance - will this affect quotes?

Been getting some very random quotes for the R (anything from £400 up to £850 confused.gif )

Then I tried Admiral, whom I have used before, and it said that they couldn't quote online and to phone an 0800 number, which I did.

After being on hold for about 15 minutes, the chap says that they won't quote as I have a DR10 & IN10 (Drink Driving & Driving with no Insurance disqaulifications). A bit of a shock to say the least as my last and only endorsement was an SP30 about 15 years ago!

I told him to re-check and went on hold again for another 10 minutes. When he came back, he said that there seemed to have been a mistake and they had be put on my details in error.

Obviously I told him to make sure they are removed and will write to them to get confirmation that they have done so, in case I want a quote from them in the future.

I know that all the Insurance Co's share information across their database, so could this have had an adverse effect on any quotes I have received so far?

Elephant (part of the Admiral group) put a claim on my policy last year which had absolutely nothing to do with me. (I sold the car about a month before this supposed claim and didn't even hold insurance for that car at the time?!).

Many phonecalls and letters later and all I got was that the "claim" couldn't be taken off but they wouldn't charge me any extra premium. None of my letters were replied to, and all phonecalls were put through India.

I would not reccomend Elephant, Admiral or Bell Direct (All the same group). Their attitude was poor, especially when I even had a signed dated letter from the new owner stating that SHE made the claim on HER policy a month after I sold the car to her. They just weren't interested in helping.

Most definitely an adverse effect for as long as the 'error' remains on the records. Insurance companies do network info - Quite rightly imo. Drink-drive deserves very severe punishment imo.

You need to put something in writing and receive something in writing - a phone conversation is highly unlikely to clear your name. I'm sure that Insurance_Jon can advise.

DJCool > You should have gone to the ombudsman.

I have all the documents here ready to do so. My insurance switches from Admiral to Direct Line in two weeks. I have stated to Direct Line that I have no claims but if they try to charge me for one I will raise the issue once again. This time they can deal with Elephant/Admiral as I have copies of all letters sent, a factual statement, a copy of the new owners statement etc and will forward this to both Direct Line and the ombudsman.

I'll not be dealing with Admiral again, aside from informing them that I will not be renewing with themselves this year.

Pincher - Convictions aren't usually shared, only within the same group. Under the Data Protection Act you can request a copy of all information held on file about you. computer and paper. Send a request for this by recorded delivery, and a letter of complaint by recorded delivery. They have to reply within 5 working days. if not, go to the ombudsman, and feel smug that the ombudsman charge them 250 quid to them to handle your complaint.
