Machining wheel to change offset?

As you all know I've got my 19" BBS CHs fitted and as they have an offset of ET30, they stick out a little in the front. Being the perfectionist I wondered if a machine shop could take a small amount (5mm) off the mounting faces to make them ET35 and make them sit better under the arch. As its such small amount, thought wouldn't be much of a concern in terms of safety but guessed they may rub slightly more on full lock. All ideas and thoughts greatly welcomed, even if its to tell me I'm insane!

NOOOOOOOO!

Please don't do this Dan. You risk weakening the overall structure of the wheel by doing this. If it's about sitting better under the arch as a cosmetic point, I would suggest pushing the rears out slightly with 5mm or 10mm spacers.

If they're rubbing on the inner arch, sounds horrible, but you may be better off getting wheels with the correct offset of 38.

My friend had this done to the wheels on his Porsche, when he called up the manufacturer (BBS I think) they said they use a certain number of hubs (they were split rims) which are machined within a range of offsets.

The difficulty was finding a lathe big enough to accomodate his 18" wheels (it was a few years ago !), if you are going to do it I would check with BBS first that there is enough "meat" on the hub for this, must say Mook's suggestion of spacing out the rears is good as this is reversible & you would struggle to sell wheels that have been machined down - they normally have the offset etc. stamped into them after machining
