djcool
My insurance is up for renewal in the next two weeks, and I am highly likely to be opting for an engine remap for my D5 to coincide with my renewal. Obviously, it goes without saying that ANY modifications to the car require you to inform your insurance company, but I am aware that many people do not because of the expected price hike. Without a remap, the cheapest quote from a mainstream insurance company with my 3 years car NCB was around £650 NUD). Direct Line offered to take my motorcycle NCB into consideration reducing this to £550. With a remap, most insurance companies add on a silly premium. But I've just gotten of the phone to Adrian Flux, who will charge me £540 if my car is NOT modified, or £668 if it is remapped. Both with a lower excess than Direct Line, fully comp, social and commuting etc etc. Not bad for a 22 year old and a +30% power hike. Chris Knott wanted £1300 even before the remap Moral of the story: Declaring modifications might not cost as much as you think!!
stevie_d
I've heard bad stories about Adrian Flux, so be careful, I'm sure Insurance Jon has more info tho! Did you try Greenlight? They're excellent and will also offer VERY cheap track day cover.
s4_sat
Anyone know of any good place for classic car insurance for a 22 year old that isn't over £3k? For a 1987 Porsche 944 Lux 2.5.
P_G
Adrian Flux seems to be hit and miss. I've had no problems thus far with them and changing my insurance to class 1 business use was a doddle but I know others have had nightmares with them. Defo the cheapest and policy is with RSA

RedRobin
Okay - my senior age and spotless record works in my favour, but I have everything declared and listed on my insurance - even my Pioneer system. Most of my mods don't have any premium or excess charges, but only add to the insurance value. I always discuss and agree any insurance details/revisions before carrying out any mods. I'm with DirectLine and have been for years.
djcool
Phoned Greenlight and they said they wouldn't even be able to come close either modified or as standard then hung up on me! Unbelievable.
bullett
Classic policys have (in my experience) several caveats. 1. It's a 2nd car 2. Limited mileage 3. Garaged 4. Driver over a certain age driver I fitted all these parameters and my Porsche 912 costs me £150pa 5000 for miles.

Unbelievable. [/ QUOTE ] WOW, that's a bit embarassing for me Everytime I've dealt with them they've been amazing! I rang up to check for 'ring cover once and ended up on the phone for nearly an hour...nope, not a queue, just chatted to a lad about the 'ring and cars and etc etc etc. Even when they refused me cover, due to my new car being worth more than £15k and me being under 25, they were very chatty and read of a list of "young" people friendly insurers.
