Is there a list for the next M3?

I think it will be quite dependent on; the looks, the price and weather Audi are still selling the RS4 then. But it could well be a corker. I dont think it will have anywhere near the following of the E46 M3 though, that then was the best thing out by along shot. Fast cars like porkas all now offer a similar state of luxury...

There are 37 deposits down at my dealer and they reckon usually 50% of them take the car they are offered, 25% of them drop out completely and the other 25% move further back up the list, mainly because the timing isn't right to swap cars etc.

So if 27 people do actually take the car then putting your name down on a list at this stage just isn't worth it, cars will be available before your slot in the list is I bet. Speak to someone like Gareth nearer the time.

To be honest, I think it depends on the dealer and your relationship with them too.

I asked about the E92 M3 a few weeks back when I was looking at the Z4M Coupe. The Sales Manager said if I wanted one when 'the time came' it wouldn't be a problem.

"We can sort it out if you tell us you want one. You might have to wait 8-12 weeks but I'll get you one if you ask."

Dave, think the lists are pretty big now, I managed to swindle a number 5 place on a list a few months ago but that was because that dealer did alot of work with the company im at. All the other dealers I tried before were putting me between 20-25!!!

Didn't you tell us before you were something like no. 15 on the "list" ???

I think Chris was saying while looking at the Z4M he asked about the new M3.

I agree, that is why I don't5 see the point of going on a list, there are meant to be long waits on the 335i but I was told I could order one and have it within 8-12 weeks no problem.

I drove a 335i SE yesterday and it does bode well for the M3. To be honest it felt as fast-if not as savage-as the current E46 M3 and a very complete car. There are cars around as they have been pre-specced and ordered in reasonable amounts too coffee.gif

and also depends more importantly on the relationship of the dealer with BMW UK, their Zone Manager and the depth/quality fo their order bank. Those factors will determine the allocations for the E92 M3 but don't expect any dealer to have more than 7/8 cars for the first year of supply.

Also to get a M3 within 8-12 weeks of launch you can't be fussy about colours/specs as well...

What Gareth says adds up from what my dealer said. I can have an M3 when they're launched, or close to it, if I want one - BUT - I'll not be able to choose the colour or specification.

However, do it on a buy back deal less an amount for the cars mileage, have a new M3 ordered straight away to your specification, and it means you get a new model straight away with a replacement coming eventually and hopefully a small amount of monies expended in the meantime.

So the consensus is that waiting time is currently at about 2 years?

[/ QUOTE ]

how did you get to that Mark ?? And 2 years from when ??

Looking at previous posts in this thread, it seems that although one may be able to obtain an M3 within 8-12 weeks of launch, the spec etc will not be configurable and you'll be lucky if the dealer has any allocation left.

Perhaps 2 years is overly pessimistic, but I'm assuming there would be a significant wait for an M3 in my preferred spec, if I were to order one today.

I know that this is something my local Porsche dealer does a lot of, and provided (as you say) there is minimal additional outlay on the intervening car, then it sounds like a reasonably good idea.

So you'd be tempted to give up your beloved 6 for an E92 M3? Or maybe you're thinking of an alternative to the A4 wink.gif

I'd say that you *might* be able to get a car within 8-12 weeks of launch but because the UK launch is not yet confirmed in any way at all it's hard to say if we are talking 18/24/28 months from now.

If you really want to have a car near to launch time and to your spec it's worth calling a few dealers to understand their waiting list situation 169144-ok.gif

Do you want to hear my thoughts then ?? Was a fairly brief 10/15 minute spin but enough to learn the basic attributes of the E92.
