Adrian Flux - Good/Bad?

I posted this morning about a very good quote I had for my Volvo S60 with a +30% remap with Adrian Flux (underwritten by Highway Insurance) - £668

The chap was very helpful, knew his stuff and I was impressed with the service.

However, I've been digging through the internet and have found tonnes of bad reports about Adrian Flux & Highway. Bad service, admin issues, lost paperwork, having to chase them up for certificates, not-paying out for claims etc etc.

Trouble is, I am a young driver (22) with a (what will be) a modified car which puts me out on shanks's pony as far as insurance is concerned. Mainstream insurers either won't touch me if the car would be modified or double the premium. I've tried all the "modified specialist" brokers and end up with premiums over £1000 which I'm NOT paying.

I don't wish to drive around with an undeclared modification, so it's a case of either going ahead with Adrian Flux's quotation (with Highway Insurance) and having the engine remap, or accepting Direct Lines (very good - £540) quote and keeping the car standard.

I don't know what to do. SAUER0421.GIFconfused.gif

Well, they've been around for as long as I can remember so they can't be thatbad surely?

They are probably as good as most other Insurance Co's in that they will faff around and take aeons to settle any claim (not that I'm tarring all of them with the same brush ROLLEY~14.GIF )

Trouble with t'internet is that you rarely hear of people writing about the wonderful service they have received from XYZ Company. They would rather moan to no-one in particular.

Try a search on DirectLine, Tesco Insurance, Admiral or any mainline Insureres and you will probably find similar tales of woe.

I guess as long as you are happy that you have declared everything and the quote is good, then why not? You'll only find out how good (or bad) they really are when you have to make a claim, which I'm presuming you don't intend to have to do.

I changed from Flux last time round.

Good pricing, but they couldn't touch BMW Insurance in the end.

However, the main reason was I was sick to death of the most ridiculous and appalling customer service I've ever encountered. They threatened to cancel my policy on 4 occasions because of no proof of Tracker fitment - despite my faxing it to them on numerous occasions and their fax machine being broken. First they denied it, then admitted it, then denied it again....and then admitted it again.

It took over 10 e-mails, 3 letters and god knows how many phone calls to get it sorted. Then I swapped my number plate...and you'd think I'd asked for a quote on a car with 1,567 modifications. It was shocking.

OK until they need to do some work, then a complete pain in the arse!!

I moved to them when I REVO's the A6, 8 weeks in I got a letter saying my policy was cancelled because I had not sent proof of no claims, I had faxed it while on the phone to them and they confirmed they had it. I had to get another copy from my old insurer and send it again otherwise they were going to charge me if they got it, £30!, which really annoyed me as they had lost it anyway.

When I got the policy through nearly 3 months later the mod was not on it, so I called them back and the added it, but made me pay £15 admin charges for amending the policy, even though they were the ones who didn't add it in the first place.

I was 3 days into a new policy when I swapped from my A6 avant to the 535d, as they were nearly a grand for my car unmodded and £1600 for it modded I needed to move insurer, BMW insurance were £512 unmodded and £602 modded, so a no brainer.

I had to chase AF for 2 months to get the no claims proof, and then I got a letter saying I owed them £3.75!!

Turns out they hadn't even cancelled my policy, I never got the refund and then had to pay them £3.75 to just get away from them.

I would avoid, or at least make sure you are not likely to add anything to the policy, need to change cars or god forbid have to actually claim! frown.gif

first used them when we got the R32 and are still with them as nobody else has ever got near on price. Customer service has been fantastic, although policy docs etc have always been a little slow coming through.

Never had to make a claim and a bit concerned about the comments above, so thnk may try extra hard next time to move the policy elsewhere.

Used them for many years and they have been ok - prices were excellent for M5 and the Lambo. Changed from them when I bought the Audi though as their quote was way off the mark and they took over £90 from the refund amount to cancel the policy. In the small print it says that they will keep ALL their comission when you cancel a policy, regardless of how long its been running (3 months in my case)!! sportifs2.gif

I'll stick up for them. When I got my quote in writing I queried it to see if it was still the same and granted they said they couldn't guarantee that quote any more. However phoning back 5 minutes later allowed my to use my written quote.

A hell of a lot cheaper than anyone else for my modified S4 with replacement parts on a like for like basis and when I had to change to class 1 business usage, no problems at all and pretty quick for new certificate.

Touching wood whilst I write this I haven't had a claim, will be interesting to see what they renewal is.
