A4_Family_Man
Saw another 1.8T today, with a red 'T'. Know about the TDi and the red 'I' but never seen/noticed this on a 1.8T. Just wondered what this signified?
gizze
190bhp for the 1.8T and 220bhp for the the 2.0T maybe??
Avus_Bub
Yes my 190ps 1.8t had a red 'T'. But didn't the 180ps B5's have a red 'T' too?
gizze
Probably, but then the standard 1.8T in the B5 was only 150bhp wasn't it?
Dave
Doesn't the red T signify quattro?
Ari
No, the quattro badges signify quattro...
A4_Family_Man
So the 190 A4's (04 onwards?) have a red T, as opposed to the 163 A4's 00-03(like mine) - which don't.
ashleyadam
Red T was for Quattro cars - Weve had a 1.8T Sport(T Reg) without red T & 1.8T Sport Quattro (Y Reg) with red T.

shark_90
But didn't all the quattro B5's come with 180bhp engines? It's certainly for the 190bhp 1.8T in the B6.

[/ QUOTE ] Makes sense for the B5's, Shark. But all the UK B6 S-Lines are 190ps and have a red 'T'. BUB

[/ QUOTE ] No, I think what it was was that they put a more powerful version of the 1.8T in the quattro cars. So the red T was there to denote the more powerful engine. The quattro badges denote quattro. Thinking about it, I seem to recall my first A3 1.8T (150hp) had a silver T, and my second (180hp quattro) had a red T, but I'm not certain cos it was debadged straight away. A4_Family_Man
All a tad confusing this....So the T signifies more bhp, which Quattro cars had

PetrolDave
Basically any red bit on the badge means more power (red T on petrol cars, red I on diesel cars), and a quattro badge means ....... quattro! (Except on S or RS models which are all quattro so they don't get a quattro badge on the rear, but they do on the trim above the glovebox). Dave
yes, they used to increase the bhp of the quattro cars so they wern't slower than the 2w drive cars.. the quattro adds quite a bit of weight!
Chrisg
red T on B5s = 180bhp , only available on quattro from the facelifted may1999 to end of production run. Hers is actually de badged but it would have had a red T ! I'm sur e it was the same on the A3
