wilsdad
Hi guys, just ordered a new mk 5 gti from car supermarket (import) and thus had no choice of spec. I have read the sat nav posts and may go for this upgrade but I have a few questions if anybody can help:- Is is possible to fit a cd multichanger with the sat nav otherwise cant you play cd with nav disk in? My car does not have centre arm rest which I have had in my other audis and VWs and so will miss it. Is it possible to retro fit the front centre arm rest and if not where do people place their cd multichanger? Thanks in advance
stevie_d
Not sure if it's possible to retrofit the CD changer in the armrest, but you could always use a non-VW changer, that would work fine and you'd have a choice of where to put it! Welcome btw
petsy
yes you can retrofit the centre armrest but it won't be cheap... if you plan to go ahead anyway make sure your order the armrest fashioned for the cd changer then install the cd changer or VW ipod in the space. wilsdad
thanks for the quick responses, glad the armrest can be done...... has anyone tried it and does anybody have a guestimate of costs. Didn't realise the armrest had to be configured for the cd changer, this cupholder/ armrest/ bottle opener thing confuses me a bit?? I would probably go the diy route for fitting. I've just bought a 'new' sat nav system on flea bay but I'm not taking delivery of the car until the end of the month so won't be able to 'test' it until then. Neimad
It looks like VAGParts.com sell them but I'm not sure from the picture whether it's the correct piece for RHD cars -- best check with them if you do go this route.
wilsdad
thanks neimad, wasn't aware of that site, I'll e-mail them to check if ok for RHD but looks like it will do the job. My primary concern was that I needed it as an armrest not just a home for the CD.
Neimad
It's a really good site actually -- they can supply anything that your local Dealer can get a hold of (so pretty much any part or accessory) and are usually cheaper. And when they're not cheaper they tell you that you'd be better off getting it from your dealer instead. Good bunch of chaps, much recommended. (... And no, I don't work for them! Just a very happy customer of theirs...)
