aschapman
Hi all, I'm a fairly new S3 owner and my car (MY02, 62k and not remapped as far as I know) has started to hesitate at about 3000 rpm and then violently hit boost. Sometimes it feels like there is a massive flat spot, then a judder and then we're away. Above about 3500 I don't have this problem. I've seen faulty MAF sensors mentioned - is this something that could be caused by a faulty one - if so are they easy to replace? Would appreciate some help as I live miles away from an Audi dealer. Many thanks!
Wallachie
Sounds like your MAF is fooked mate. Not hard to sort, take it to a specialist who will sort it for you, shouldn't cost more than £100. If you don't want to spend the money, you can take it and clean it which will probably do you for a little while. Some of the guys on here have posted pics and instructions on how to do it, use the search facility and that should help you find the thread. My last S3 did exactly the same thing at about 2.6k revs under acceleration, if I lifted off and booted it again it seemed to pull ok then. S3ENVY
I've had this for the last couple of weeks until car showed a misfiring fault through VagCom. Replaced the coilpacks and everything is fine now. I did have similar symptoms when my MAF failed too so this would most probably be your first point of investigation. Hopsta
Disconnect your MAF and then run your car as normal, if all ok then you need a new MAF
aschapman
Appreciate all your responses people. I'll search on the site to try to find some instructions on how to disconnect the MAF sensor. Out of interest, does anybody know of any good Audi specialists in the Herts / Bucks / Essex area? Thanks anyway!!

aschapman
Can anybody point me in the right direction for removing and fitting MAF sensor instructions? Also, has anybody here used Fontain - are they any good? Thanks
S3ENVY
To disconnect the MAF sensor, look for the air box housing on the far right-hand side of your engine bay just above the battery. There will be the induction hose, (the large black rubber hose that looks like an artery), connected to the left hand side of the air box and immediately where it connects there will be an electrical connector which is connected to the MAF. Disconnect this and the MAF is out of play. Engine photo courtesy of Paul_S3, hope that's okay?
