babydub
The R was due its first MOT on 1st September so in to the dealers it went expecting everything to be ok and for it to sail through the MOT, however it didnt. Reasons for failing > Internal wear on both front suspension? > Track rod ends anyone else had problems like this? and also does anyone know if the auto dipping mirrors are a standard feature or extra? as the dealer said he looked at my spec list, that it wasnt included and would cost me £30 to link me to a computer for them to tell me if it was there? thanks

[/ QUOTE ] I would seriously consider finding another dealer because a) it is standard - but fair enough they can't be expected to know the spec of a certain model like we might but b) if you look at the mirror you will see a little hole in it (below the glass) that is the light sensor - if you want you can (in the dark) shine a torch at it & watch it dim, the other other giveaway is the wiring conduit though to be fair this could be for the rain-sensor which is located where the mirror attaches to the windscreen

helfinger
as mjcb says, try another VW dealer...as i can't see that they have worn with that miles, unless you have spent most of the time driving (on/in) the beach/sea.. if they have then i'm sure you could see about a warrenty claim... babydub
iv changed dealers 3 times and this is the best one iv come across (south hereford). luckily the car was still under warranty when i took it in so the parts and labour are covered but it still seems crap that as such low mileage they have to be changed. the car is going back in on thursday for the work to be carried out, and the dealer asked me to find out if the dipping mirrors were standard? as they didnt know? Mook
It doesn't matter if it's covered 19K miles or 59K miles, it's all down to how it's been driven. Can you qualify the "Internal wear on both front suspension". Are they saying that the strut inserts have gone (i.e. they're leaking). Do you (or did the previous owner) live down a track? This will make a lot of difference to wear. Auto dipping rear view mirror is standard on the Mk4 R32, as they have rain sensing wipers, and these two features were supplied together when they were extras on Mk4s. babydub
haha its most certainly not been driven on a track, only had mature owners and looked after very well not abused, bf puts it down to the british road conditions bearing in mind we do live in wales. thanks for all your help, will make sure the mirrors get adjusted thursday and hope they dont charge me the £30 to do it.
