Does the company let her add too the £500? This isn't as expensive as it sounds as it's classed as a payment for personal use and brings down the company car tax. i.e. £100 per month might actually cost less than half of that when you bring the tax into it.

If so there's loads around at that sort of price. The 320d is a good bet, but it's a big leap to the 330d, which is where the well priced but low on tax 2.7TDI A4 comes in. That said Audi is pushing A6's at the moment so the lease is about the same as the A4.

Look carefully at the company car tax implications, co car tax on the A4 Cab is high, even the 2.0 TDI. crazy.gif

30k a year, definately go for a company vehicle, the depreciation on a personal vehicle would be HUGE.

Diesel vehicles have a more expensive list price, and therefore higher amount to be taxed on, although the % is calculated on co2 and your tax rate.

Remember the tax is on the msrp, not wht your lease co actually get the car for too.

I'd look at a petrol 1.8T sline Cab, probably a little over £500 a month....

or a 2.0T Sline Avant..... with quattro!

Check the Benefit in Kind taxation levels carefully. Maybe better taking a car allowance rather than an actual company car if she's allowed to do this?

If you can that would be a good idea, you could get yourself a good deal on PCP. Although not all PCP scheme will allow 30k a year.

Does the company have a contract with a specific leasing company? You'll find that they generally have good systems for giving you various quotes, and will also give you a estimate of the tax implications so you can work out the real cost of the car.

Don't forget how much you private motor is cost at the moment, with a company car there are no further costs to pay after you've included the tax.

On a private car, say £400 per year insurance, £160 car tax, service + tyres etc, maybe another £500 or so per year. That's something like £100 per month which is getting on for half the tax bill for a nice car. That's also without looking at the cost of actually buying your own car.

As an example I have just ordered a A6 Avant 2.7TDI S-Line Multitronic (200g/km Co2 rating), inc options it's £36k's worth of car. The tax on this is £2800 per year after you take into account the personal use charge (since I'm adding some money to get this).

Ok this is over £200 per month to Mr Brown, but compared to what I spent running my last A6 (in which I only did 6k per year) it's not that far off.

I'd say a diesel is the way to go, other than perhaps the VW/Audi 2.0T engine the Co2 vs performance (real world) ratio is better.

I've still access to the lease quotes system let me know if you want me to price you a couple of examples. This may not be what your wife pays but it should let you compare tax and relative prices.

I researched this quite heavily and found that, for me at least, a company car was an attractive option. I'm running an E320 CDI.

You have to compare both options and see which is cheaper. You also need to take into account non financial implications such as the company car will be hassle free and offer peace of mind, but you might not be able to get the exact model you want through the scheme. To calculate the cost do it this way

Costs of the company car:

Company car tax depends on the list price * the CO2 rating (rounded down to the nearest 5 g/km). So a 183g/km car at £20k would be 23% * £20k = £150 per month assuming you are on the higher rate (earn more than £32k per year)

Then add your own contributions to it (net of 40% tax and national insurance)

Then take away any refund you get for doing company mileage e.g. 10p per mile

Cost of personal car =

Initial investment (say £20k) over 3 years = £20k*1.05^3-£20k/36 = £85 / month. This is a real cost that some people ignore

Insurance/servicing/maintenance etc

LESS: any cash equivalent you get for not taking the company car (net of HR tax and national insurance)

LESS: the mileage rate you get from your company for running the personal car (e.g 40p)

Calculations over!

Take which ever is cheapest. For me it was the company car which is ending up costing me a total of £400 per month over 12 months. Not bad for a £40k car unlimited mileage!

mm thanks for that helps me out , she is earning around just over the high bracket, and has been told ' up to 500 a month ' and can add if she wants to , she will be paid 30p a mile by the company for any milage she does ( paying for petrol herself ) and really fancys a tdi A4 cab ive just got to do some homework to see what she can get ! she does not want it to cost her more than £200 a month in tax or she may as well keep her current bora
