Merlot
Just wish it was here now. I reckon I can just about wait until summer/autumn 07 but if its spring 08 then I might have to do a few things in the middle!

ashleyadam
Looking really good apparently will have carbon fibre roof & bonnet option also using engine out of M5.

NewNiceMrMe
It is indeed rumoured to have a Carbon Fibre Roof as standard - but I didn't know of the bonnet? Surely not? The engine is apparently a reworked variant of the old M5's V8.

Not a rumour I'd heard and the bonnet is a little bit of a left field one

Merlot
I remember the demand last time round when they were new. I'm first on my dealer's list. I presume that if I ordered a sensible spec I could sell the car on after 6/12 months for no loss?

That not how the market is now, but it was in 2001 when the E46 M3 came out.
Calm Chris
Gareth, Surely if the M3 shines with the road testers and we all know there's queues already. demand will outstrip supply and 6-12 month old nearly new car will demand near RRP . Add to that BMW limiting to flow (as RS Audis and even R32's) and the market will be exactly right for premiums for queue jumpers and nearly new cars As a side issue, if you don't mind being asked, do you not use your influences and take options on taking a few cars yourself

There is no doubt in my mind the the E92 M3 will be a blinding car and the better of the RS4 for example. However BMW are a volume manufacturer now and they are chasing the numbers with all their models, even M cars. I have it on good authority that the E92 M3 will launch at £49,995, so £55k with a decent spec, and that "most" dealers will have 8 cars for the first 9-12 months. If you compare that the E46 M3 most dealers had half the amount of cars for the same period of time...hence the reason that after 6 months of the E92 being out they will be relatively freely available and any initial premium (or "overs") market will be long gone. The very first M3's that are available on the open market should attract a premium of c. £5,000 for the first 4 weeks of the UK launch, but will slip thereafter. I have had my name, letter of intent and signed order down since for the E92 M3 since 2002 so am no.1 on that dealer list. As for taking other options up through my contacts that something I might look at nearer the time but it wouldn't be my primary focus. Hope that answers your questions ? Gareth. [/ QUOTE ] All very true. Look At CLK/SLK cabs 2nd time round where demand was far less than 1st time but supply was more. Also look at the V8 Vantage. I'm trying to choose between an R8 and an M3. I would prefer the Audi, partially because of true exclusivity and the fact that AWD will make it much more use in the winter. I'm not that bothered that it will cost £20k more and not be much faster than the M3. It just looks outstanding.
Gareth
The trick for you would be to run the R8 for a short time and then smoothly move into the M3 - if you can of course !! That would limit your loss and give you a decent flavour of both cars. Where are you on the R8 waiting list ??
Merlot
Third. There's just too much to choose from new model wise for 07. Excellent as the new M3 Coupe will probably be, I'm not sure that I can justify £55k to myself for a three series.

Even though im sure the new M3 will be faster in a straight line, I know they wont make it compete in feel and noise. What are the chances a new CSl will make it to production Gareth/ If fact while your looking in to your crystal ball tell us how much it is and whats the wait Hope it does, may have to change my order
Merlot
FWIW it sounds like the launch of the M3 may not be much after the R8. I'm also not sure how easy the R8 would be to move on after a few months as the jury is still out as to whether this one will be a residual success or nightmare. I'll probably only take the R8 if I want to keep it a few years.
