cant what... ??? login ?? bootup ?

assume that this is a standalone machine and not part of a windows domain ?? I've got a util which will get you booted up and logged in wink.gif

Are you getting any error messages at all ? be nice to know if the local SAM (password file) is actually corrupted. Assume that you dont have another admin account to work with? any backups of the 'system state' ?

If its part of a network can you access it via another PC ? tried resetting the password ?? What does the event logs say.

Hi Graham

Cant login, the machine boots to the login screen but the password file is corrupt

I know this as I reset the password on the server then the machine got the hump and had to reboot and thats when it got upset with the password

And yes it is on a domain I have tried changing the password again on the server but cannot get in, although I can from other machines

Definitely a problems with windows, tried repairing using the set up disc, still no good

Any other ideas?

So with the same account your able to log on other machines ?? sounds like you computer account on the domain has got screwed. The domain computer/user accounts are stored on the server(Domain Controller) with no local copies.

Can you access the PC still from another PC using \\[computer name]\c$\? or even tried accessing the local machine/SAM file with 'Computer Management' (in Control Panel/Admin tools)?
