But i have made the decision to not ride again...

I got taken off again 2 weeks ago (the second time in 4 months) and was lucky to walk away again but being self employed I can't take the chance again, the last 2 weeks have been hell. 2 broken and 2 cracked ribs plus the associated bruising has been too much pain to go through again, been back to ER with a suspected punctured lung twice.

I love bikes, the sound, the experience and the freedom.

If anyone is thinking about doing their licence.. GO DO IT! you will not regret it.

I will just have to live with you all filtering past me wink.gif

The worst bit is i still have to pay for the damage to the bike i wrecked on a demo ride, basically the £1k excess..

I'll still enjoy coming in here and wouldn't want to put anyone off, i was just plain unlucky.

Jon.

Ribs fecking hurt.

Broke 3 of mine and it took 5 months before I was 100% Silly things like sleeping at night, rolling over and getting the dreaded red light of pain.

I wish you a quick recovery, and maybe you should consider social (fun) only motorcycling rather than commuting?

I never used to commute on the bike regularly so 99% of my riding was social frown.gif

Jon: You`ll get over it mate.

I don`t blame you for packing it in, as sometimes, there are more important things in life.....like your health and well-being, for instance !

With biking, and all the pleasure it brings, it`s sometimes difficult to accept that it`s over when it`s over..... frown.gif

Sorry to hear about the accident(s) Jon. I suppose on the bright side it could have been worse. crazy.gif

I don't blame you for not wanting to ride again. I imagine a couple of nasty 'offs' soon knocks any 2-wheel enthusiasm out of you. frown.gif

Yeah, it could have been much worse, at the point i impacted the bank at the side of the road i hit one of the plastic concrete filled bollards with the side of my chest, hence the ribs going. At least that moved somewhat, when i went back to where it happened 5 feet either side of the bollard were trees with trunks about 18" in dia. They would have done much more damage.

Luckily the guy in the van behind me saw me hit the diesel and the bike start to go and slowed down (he was a biker too) i think any non rider would have probably run over the bike and my legs.

I'm still going to stay involved in the HD scene and go to the events but i'm definitely not riding on the road in the UK again.

I too can understand why you have decided to throw in the towel

I gave up biking in 1998, not because of an accident but because of my other half at the time, plus wasn't using the bike much. After about 6 weeks and the first sunny weekend I was at the Suzuki dealer for a new one. Since then i've went through a few more bikes and other halfs :-)

Jon, it's very easy to come off a bike, innit. Funny thing was, when I made the decision to stay off, it was because of a near miss rather than the numerous spills I'd had. I rode home, got off, and I just couldn't bring myself to get back on. frown.gif

Without wishing to sound like a stuck record. Almost always, these incidents are wholly avoidable. We’re often unaware of potential hazards. We show poor hazard perception and positioning and when someone else phucks up, we get hurt.
