A8_Tony
Afternoon chaps Has anyone had any experience with Foliatecs interior trim kits? I'm toying with the idea of changing the look of the wood trim to something carbon based, but to be honest don't know where to start. I know Foliatec to a sticky film kit, but also came across a 2 stage process this morning that involves a carbon-like sheet, and a lacquer. All help as always, appreciated
Soapsuds
only experience i have was a VERY long time ago on my old Mk2 Golf GTi...... i used the foliatec kit to pop some carbon style surround on the radio / heater surround. It is easy to use and sticks well, BUT we had a hot summer and it all bubbled....... that was about 8 years ago, so the technology might have moved on and they might guarantee against this....... You just have to ensure there are no air bubbles, or it will look naff!! Personally, if i had an A8, i'd leave it as it was, or get a legit Audi kit (eBay / VAG Parts etc....) A8_Tony
The unfortunate thing is, that I don't think there was an option for Carbon on the D2 A8 Thanks for the reply though chap
kermitfrog
Foliatec Please don't do it Avoid at all costs. Results will look horrendous and chav'd. Start with Euro Car Parts who I'm sure do replacement trim inserts in most popular looks like carbon, wood, etc. No idea about the quality of these items, but so much better than the sticky back plastic route. Tobes49
The 2 stage process is wet laying carbon fibre sheet then pouring resin over the top to mould the sheet to the orignial pannel, Will look like proper carbon fibre but as there a major carbon shortage at the min prices are very expensive expect to pay £20-30sq meter, resin is very messy and needs a catalist to make the resin dry. (I've made quite a few carbon items this way) Foliatecs Sheet looks ok, but only if fitted perfect, any slight bubble makes it look rubbish. I don't want to go down the film route, as it will look crap IMO. I'd much rather go down the 'proper' route of the 2 stage process
Tobes49
It not hard, just messy and takes time, You will need a ribed roller and quite a few brushes. You cut the sheet to size and then paint the resin over the top, roll/brush any air bubbles out the leave to set. I used to have a webpage showing you how to wet lay carbon on my old site, I'll dig it out and post it up!

Ska
The problem with the film is that when you heat it to follow the contours of the trim, the pattern distorts. I'd leave as well. Go for some other mods for the interior such as led style mood light effect you get in the new 5 series but do it right or else the word chav will be mentioned a lot with your name
A8_Tony
No need for led style mood lighting I've got the comfort light pack truly gorgeous I'm after updating the interior, just to make it a little more modern
