allanon_1980
would there be much of a difference ? I know better traction off the line etc but once in motion ?
RedRobin
Apart from traction I would say not much difference if you are comparing a well re-mapped GTI with a standard R32 - both Mk5. A bit swings versus roundabouts and ultimately down to personal preference on the feel of driving each car.
stevie_d
The GTI would be quicker in a straight line, when it gets going, but I'd expect the R32 to be quicker in the wet. Personally, don't flame me, I think there would be very little real world difference between an R32 and a GTI on a dry b-road.

petsy
wouldn't it depend on what colour each car is as we all know that red cars are faster...

R32North
As you're comparing Apples with Oranges, I don't think its worth the brain power really. I like both cars, but surely TSNers are beyond this GTi v's R32 thingy!!

CageRattler
and at high altitude, eg Johannesburg, there would only be one winner...
rs32
so the GTI is definitely quicker if you remap it, take it to South Africa and drive it up a big feckin hill. Well that's solved the argument then
dazdot
[ QUOTE ] But surely TSNers are beyond this GTi v's R32 thingy!! [/ QUOTE ] In answer to the above quote, I would have hoped so. Am I alone in cringing when the words "My car (or car brand) is faster than yours"? I bought my Gti because it felt right on my test drive, I liked the styling and most of all my wife loves it. If it did 0-60 in 8.5 seconds, or a top speed of 100mph it really wouldn't have mattered to me. It seems that the Gti owners are morphing into the stereotypical CTR owners. End of moan. stevie_d
dazdot> I don't believe it's a stereotypical "mine is bigger than yours" thread, I personally think it's interesting to see how two cars which are oh so similar, yet oh so different, would compare

ChrisBuer
I think a chipped GTI would have more torque than a standard R32 for sure, so in gear I'd expect the GTI to be quicker. Plus it's ligher to the power to weight ratio would be higher as well. Having never driven one though, I can't say from firsthand experience, this is just going on figures
devilc
My MTM-chipped GTI (claimed 245 hp) is very evenly matched with my mate's R32... when I have three people in the car and he's alone in his. When we're both alone in the cars, mine's a bit faster.
Decked
Got to admit it.... My sisters Revo'd DSG Gti is a fast little beast!! Off the lights the Gti is an animal and the DSG helps things out a little. But on the motorway a standard Mk4 R will pull away from her (from 70mph +)
