Ok, lets get a list of who might be interested in this.

The idea/format, loosely, would be as follows:

Date: 17th/18th March 2007

Format: A tour up into Scotland via the west coast, beyond Loch Ness, Inverness, and embarking on a circular route back down towards the Borders.

Tour: Meeting up on a Saturday morning (early), heading out and staying overnight on the evening about 1/2 way through our tour, in a hotel. Having a drink/meal on the evening then heading off early morning to cover the return trip through the countryside, with various stop offs here and there.

Distance: God knows, but probably a good 600+ miles all round from the meet start point to the return to it.

Add your name to a list below, remembering you should be prepared to pay out on fuel, meals, drinks and the cost of accomodation on the night (base it on £100 for the night and we know we'll be covered with that).

People welcome from all over TSN, no matter where in the UK you are - go on, make a weekend of it and enjoy a glorious roadtrip through some of the best scenery in the world (just ask Daz). 169144-ok.gif

The weather could be a gamble, but in Scotland you're faced with that at anytime. Look at Daz's recent trip up there - no rain all the way, yet early September would normally see a good amount of rainfall if MetCheck are to be believed.

March could see Sun, Cloud, Rain or Heavy Snow - you really do have to take the risk. Either way, under any of those conditions the scenery is just as stunning.

It all adds to the fun.

The Northeast/Scotland had a run meet in horrific grimey conditions early this year and many would tell you its the most fun they've had in years in a car!

I've been thinking about this. It might be preferable if we choose a date for the Roadtrip now. That way, people have plenty of advance notice of when the event will take place and we don't end up with people dropping out closer to the date because they've committed to other things.

So, allowing for as good a weather as possible, I've had a look at the trends in March and reckon that (this isn't scientific, lets face it, but the odds are in our favour) the weekend should be...

Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th March 2007

This is on the basis that the MetOffice say this weekend falls right in the middle of, and I quote, "A settled period as the first of the Spring anticyclonesaffects the UK. As daylight hours are longer this period can sometimes see very mild weather during the day but hard frosts at night."

They predict 55% accuracy on that, so if it ends up being a trip of blizzards and cars stuck in snow, well don't blame me!

Now then, my next bit...

Can TP27 or RossG plan a route for us? As patriotic Scots they'll know the land better than the rest of us (or most of us.

Can one of you also look at the route and see where the end of a Day 1 would be and then we can look into our Hotel options in the area.

The sooner I start trying to strike a deal with a hotel the better.

Please note - if you sign up to this, once the hotel deal has been struck I'll be asking for payment. That way, we can pay up front, people will know their accomodation is paid for and we don't end up with any red faces on the day or bills unpaid. I'd envisage this meaning your monies will be asked for at some point prior to the end of January 2007.

Add your name to the list...

Chris, great idea, but...

For me personally, the scenery up there is just too good to spend two days whizzing past it only to hack back down home again. I'd want longer to stop and look, and hopefully photograph, the views. I'd also like to get the ferry over to some of the Western Isles and perhaps visit a distillery or two...

I appreciate that I'll probably be in a minority here, and most people will want to enjoy a weekend of driving and then get back home without needing to take any leave, so I'm not suggesting a change to your plan (just explaining why I like the idea but won't be adding myself to the list).

I might be inspired to take my own trip, perhaps four to seven days, and meander up the West coast and islands, cross from Inverness to Aberdeen and then back down through Speyside and through Sterling or something. It' sbeen something I've been mulling doing since last March, so thanks for reminding me!

I'm sure the weekend trip will be great, but it's jst a bit too much of a conpressed timescale for me.

If I go mid-March, you'll all have to keep an eye out for a grey S8 worrying the locals! grin.gif

Two days, starting early, easily gives us time for plenty of photo-stops. I agree with you that it's too good an opportunity to miss them and I'd want to get plenty of photo's myself.

I've compressed the timescale because I'm very conscious that once you eat into the working week there is much less chance of a decent number of people attending. 169144-ok.gif

I'll come along, will have to visit the brother in Edinburgh- so that would be tagged on as either as a before or after depending on route being East, North, West or visa versa.

A trip to the beach would be appreciated, for a TSN March skinny dip blush.gifgrin.gif169144-ok.gif
