Golfer
Well I had the A83.0TDI new last year and covered 11k in it and thought what a good car it was, whilst waiting for this new one I had thoughts of " is it going to be to much of the same". I am happy to report it's NOTHING like the old one. SPEC:A84.2TDI Sport. Akoya Silver with blue sport heated leather,Vavona wood, service pack,19" PAX run-flats/with TPM,Bluetooth that works,Bows, DAB which is great and does not seem to loose signal, the clarity is first class, text and graphics can be sellected if available and shown on screen. The up-graded MMI/satnav has a setting to zoom in on a traffic report and show it on the map, this is very usefull. The difference in "ride quility" from standard AIR too "SPORT" AIR transforms the car. ChrisB advised that it would be a revelation and it is. The steering even weights up with a better feel and the car is more drivable at speed and corners with much more purpose. Economy at the moment is 30/33 around the houses, I am going on a bit of a run tomorrow to loosten her up a bit. The engine is very tight at the moment (120MILES)but the performance feels stronger than my "chipped" replacement. The ride on the Run-flats is very good and quiet, I tested these on the demo before ordering, and they look much better than any of the other wheels for that car IMO. It starts and runs very much more quiet than my old one making normal driving even more or a pleasure, and accelerates well at only 3K running in, I am over the moon with this car. I have as you probably know driven all the big name cruisers with the intension of finding and buying my ideal toy. Without doubt this is the one. Chris_B
Sounds great! Glad you're getting on well with the sport suspension, it's such a difference from the standard, it makes the A8 feel like a much smaller car to drive, don't you think? Golfer
Hi Guys small update: Covered 350Miles so far, local driving 32MPG, motorway 36MPG, these figures are for 80mph motorway with bursts of overtaking + fast "A" road work it has impressed me with this economy. Running in RPM around 3K gives strong acceleration ( more potent than my chipped 3.0 TDI) its got so much go it's like a RS without the noise, just pure GRUNT. It's a much more refined package than the 3.0 TDI, bluetooth connects every time and recieved calls are cristle clear. The run-flats are very quiet and make the car looks wise, NO bumps/crashs from the Sport suspension at all and still "pliable" enough to be very comfortable on long runs. Full throttle acceleration should be very enjoyable. Now "chipping" I wonder I have yet to see another 4.2TDI on the road!
Golfer
Small update: covered 1200 Miles, now considered run-in. MPG has averaged out at 32MPG overall, all types of driving included. I have seen 39MPG on long runs at m/way speeds. This car only needs a couple of gears to break the national speed limit, imposable "legally" to open her out. Acceleration to 80MPG (motorway) is extream, and this 80MPH the engine turning over at just under 2K RPM. Very under stressed. Still not reving over 4KRPM as not needed. Sat-Nav redirects around problem areas without 20 mile detoures like the old system. I find the 19" pax run-flats very quiet and EASY to keep clean, you can get all round them inside easy. To Date the car has not used a drop off oil, my last one did not use any either, so all in all well pleased and will keep this one for................... well V12 TDI eeemmm. Chris_B
[ QUOTE ] Yea I was wondering just how many miles it will need to fully run this car in, any ideas? [/ QUOTE ] It will probably run better and better incremetally up to about 30,000 miles - for some reason, a well-looked-after (warm it up before thrashing it, proper break-in period etc) engine just seems really get into it's stride after a couple of services IMHO. Must be the 150 mph run from stone cold that the techs give it on it's road test...
