New TT 2.0T or 3.2

The noise and the economy are the biggest factors to consider IMO with the handling the second.

Noise will be better with the 3.2.. However

Economy will be far worse, think 25 or less rather than 32 or more.

Handling many have said the 2.0 is far better than having the big V6 lump installed.

Can't help more than that but they would be my major considerations oh and the additional cost. grin.gif169144-ok.gif

The 3.2 will be replaced very soon. This was one of the reasons I cancelled my order and bought the Z4 as a stop gap.

The FSi (still 250ps but more torque and slightly different bore/stroke dimensions) version of the 3.2 is already out in the VW EOS, and it would be logical that the TT will get this engine. I find it mind boggleing, that Audi are launching this very important car to them, with an out of date engine.

There is a narrow angle 3.6 that is fitted to American market Passats at present. This engine has 280ps but is not FSi. I dont think (though I may be wrong) that this engine is ear marked for the TT.

The whole launch has been a fiasco of missinformation. The S Line package will be launched in the UK shortly after launch. Yet another reason why I cancelled.

The car magazines seem to think the 3.2 will be dropped when the 265 bhp 2.0T engine from the upcoming S3 is released in the TT. They say about the TT getting the a 3.6 but I think this has the wrong layout currently.

So your saying they won't do a "proper" engine? What if you don't want your power derived by forced induction from a smallish engine!?

(IMO the choice for the S3 is totally wrong)

Cubic Capacity all the way thanks..... mad.gif

Dealers are getting their demos in from the 16th Sept - drive both and see what you think. Problem I see is that the first 2.0s don't have quattro - thats a real shame in the new TT. If I get one (and I will I think but after the 3 years are up on my current one) I will go for the 2.0T Quattro with the 265ish output. Dealer tells me thats the one to watch - plus they will bring a 3.6 out I am sure but the petrol would kill me for 20K miles a year!! SAUER0421.GIF

Oh god sorry I asked grin.gif never knew the 3.2 was being replaced. Anyone when this is happening and also when the 265bhp 2.0T will be available. While I really like the 2.0 I still feel i would like a bigger one next if for know other reason than to fit a set of millteks. As for mpg im barely getting 300km's from a tank in my gti at the moment so how much worse can the 3.2 be ?

Well I ordered a 2.0T. After owning many quattros - RS4, S4, S3's, R32 and Scoobies I dont see a large benefit in it, apart from the odd ocasion in the wet when you want to be 100% of a quick takeoff.

Mine will be remaped. Those deluded people that dont think fwd cars can handle the power need to try the VXR or probably a remaped GTI. Even the journos that didnt like the VXR press cars are now changing their minds after getting products models on test. Ive driven a 280bhp VXR and it coped and reading EVO this month people are praising the Focus ST with 300bhp.

I would challenge dealers that think higher priced TT will be the one everyone has. Add quattro and you increase emmisions - company car drivers wont like it. 95% of TT drivers historically havnt given two jots about owning a drivers car - if they had, then they wouldnt of bought a TT. In theory the new TT will be a drivers car, but it will still be blighted by people after style with no care about substance.

As for fuel economy, my R32 used to get 23-24mpg and my MKVGTI about 32-33. So it will hit people hard in the purse if they do lots of miles. After owning both engines I prefer the 2.0T - but not as std. Found my GTI a bit gutless and this was highlighted by the superior VXR. Hence the remap. If modding is not your scene, you are happy to have higher depreciation and pay more at the pumps, tax and insurance, then the 3.2 could be for you.

I would wait for the 3.6 V6 and am tempted to even trade in a V8 for it. I do believe the 2.0T is a good engine and if they do put a 265ps version in it then great, but at the mo and IMO I much prefer N/A power delivery to forced induction having been privileged enough to own an S3 and now S4.
