vanillaice
Hi, After 18months of waiting and hunting today I finally bit the bullet and put a deposit down on my first S3. It's on a 51 plate, FASH, Dolphin Grey, 18" RS4 alloys, Chrome wing mirrors, black leather interior and Synphony II BOSE. EDIT: ARB's were replaced under warranty. It has currently done 31312 miles and I will be the forth owner. £12,900 Sound about right? Cheers, ICE

JamesB
Well, I can't claim to be an S3 expert (I'm sure there willbe some along later) but that price sounds about right to me. I'd have thought you'd be doing well to get lower mileage for less than £13k. My only question might be why it has gone through three previous owners in 5 years. vanillaice
I don't know about the first owner. The second owner apprantly only used it as a weekend car, stored in a garage when not in use. As it wasn't getting much use he decided to sell it to his brothers partner around March this year. She has since taken on a new job with a new company car. Sounds plausible, I just hope it is!!! Collecting tomorrow Cheers, ICE
TheReverend
Welcome to the Smoke first of all. I personally think you've done alright. Year & mileage are ok, worth having the leather as the alcantara can wear after a few years. Brakes & clutch in good shape as they're what I'd expect to cost me money at this age / mileage. I would be a little concerned about the change of owners, especially if they're in quick succession. Some people think that because the car is more reasonably priced than new that the running costs are in line with that and believe me they're not. It can lead to people under servicing the car. If you've got the appropriate sheaf of receipts then you're set. I think you'll like it - get it "chipped", fit the haldex controller then enjoy! Dolphin Grey's a bit "quiet" though isn't it, didn't fancy Noggy Blue?
vanillaice
Thanks for your opinion. Got all the receipts so hopefully thats all in order. The interior appears to be immaculate, which I think helps sell a car. Had a quote for my next service (in about ~6000 miles) not as bad as I thought, but gonna take some getting used to! I'm not planning any upgrades as yet, want to get used to her just as she is. How do I go about get VAG COM? Is it free? I would like to plug that in and check for any error codes etc. Cheers, ICE

Phil84afc
Doesnt soung bad mate. Mine is a 51, brilliant black, cruise control, Audi sat nav, sunroof, Bose, sunroof, one previous owner, chrome mirrors, 48,000 miles and cost me £12,000 back in April. Since I've had it i've had to replace a speed sensor (£130) and three new Michelins which were a very reasonable £300 (anyone that lives down south, if you wanna know the place, just ask)
chiller
Good work fella, you will not regret it.My S3 had 102,000 on the clock when got rid of and was and is still pulling like a train.Quality always shines through and Audi's have it in bucket loads.Chances are you will never look at another marque again. Alas dont bother with the Audi stealers, find yourself a good independent

vanillaice
I picked it up yesterday and so far soooo good! Couple of quick questions: I have 18" RS4 wheels, what tire pressure should they be? Going through the DIS i noticed there are two mpg readings. Can the ongoing historic reading be reset? I'd like to know what my ongoing average mpg is - not a major thing though. [ QUOTE ] Yo can get a free version of vagcom ( ross-tech.com )that has limited features, this will let you read your codes and log blocks but not do any changing stuff like locking ect... you will also need a lead to connect the computer and the car and last of all a the computer pref. a laptop. [/ QUOTE ] So the free version would bring up any fault codes? I am keen to make sure everything is behaving as it should. There is a REVO dealer near me, would they be able to do this for me? What is it likely to cost? Cheers, ICE
whoopee
you can reset the mpg by scrolling to the average reading and then pressing and holding the computer button on the windscreen wiper stalk until it disappears. vag com from an inpependant dealer for loggin values and clearing faults should cost around £30 as they spend a good 30 minutes to an hour with it if you need to go for a drive and log values such as airflow and boost readings. i got my o2 reg 225bhp s3 with 35000 and 2 previous owners for 13500. apparantley trade price from a porsche garage they part exed from someone wanting a boxter. sound like you got a very good deal, im guessing the price reflects the age aswell, being 2001.... just trying to make myself feel better having spent more but well done! DuncS3
If the 18s are factory wheels then the inside of the petrol cap should say 36 psi - if it says something lower then it would be because the car came on Avus alloys originally Dunc
Paul
iirc a 51 plate did not have them as optional extras. My first 02 S3 was one of the first few coming through, as germany got the option first, before the uk. they were probably fitted afterwards
vanillaice
Thanks for the quick reply's guys! I checked the fuel filler cap, and that says 32 psi iirc. I was told that they were aftermarket alloys, but origonal Audi - anyway of confirming they are? So they should be 36 psi all round? Thanks again, ICE
Wallachie
You can tell if they're genuine if the indent on the edge of each spoke runs right to the very end of the spoke.
Paul
thats just says they are rstt style, not RS4 style. easiest way is pop the centre cap and look for the cast in audi logo and part number. if its clear and well defined then its oem alloy if its a poor casting, poor definition, then it could be a replica cast from an oem wheel. vanillaice
Ok, I will have a look, but not that fussed as I like how they look either way. What about tyre pressures? The tyre size is 225 40 18". They are AVON tyres with a tread pattern similiar to Goodyear Eagle F1's. Cheers, ICE
